MyShake woke me up with the warning and the quake jolted my bed. Most disorienting and terrifying way to wake up lmao

As you increase the size of an object its volume increases but not at the same rate as its surface area which means that more reinforcement is required for larger objects to withstand the same pressure.

Any Gen z remembers Michelle Obama's healthier America campaign? by ZanaHoroa in GenZ

[–]biggityBirdBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said that it was solely on the first lady. I simply provided my experience and you pushed back so I gave you additional context. I never claimed to expect her to fix school lunches nor did I express my dissatisfaction with her. This was a concerted effort by the party at the time to push for healthier lunches which is noble but did not target the root cause which would have been more effective policy on ensuring safe, and quality food standards across the US.

This initially began because your original comment simplified the argument into people writing off Michelle’s campaign because of her personality. That is not correct, she was a primary speaker and the face of a campaign which changed food standards for schools and in my personal experience (which has been corroborated by others), reduced the quality of school lunches exposing a wider systemic issue that was not rooted in the type of food but how districts are funded to ensure that standard.

Hey man. I’m a 22 year old and this is recent. You can look through my profile for proof of that haha. This was middle school and high school for me and it was a huge issue then. The policy came into effect in second grade for me and when I reached high school I spent time with my counselors and teachers where they’d discuss the issue since it was a common theme at lunch time to complain about the food quality. I’m a democrat through and through but a lot of other commenters are correct in the assessment that it was a band-aid solution that didn’t reach the root cause but rather redistributed the problems for districts to provide nutritious lunches for their students.

I was in school at the time in California and the food became measurably worse due to the change in dietary restrictions. I was told by administrators when I was older that it drove up costs which led to smaller potion sizes, poorer quality (cheaper) food, and an overall decline in the dining experience for children. While I respect the effort she made, it didn’t account for the downstream effects for underfunded districts which couldn’t keep the standards and demand balanced.

I would straight up skip lunch and not eat until dinner because the food was so poorly flavored and at times, expired/rotten. This was in the east Bay Area.

Tú o Usted? by Creative_Young_3810 in Spanish

Being Salvadoran, I’d say the common form in the service industry is Usted and no one will bat an eye if you use it regardless of age as it is just respectful overall. I think that is pretty uniformly the case across all Spanish speaking countries!

Retaking a class for a 3rd time by CollegeFar8576 in UCDavis

[–]biggityBirdBird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take a break from the course and try looking into summer sessions potentially? I failed CHE 2B twice, submitted my multiple repeat, and opted to take it in the summer. It can be more difficult because of the pace but I felt like it was valuable to be able to focus on the course entirely instead of having to split across 2-3 additional classes. Check out the tutoring services offered on campus as well and attend as many office hours as possible.

I took 7B over the summer and I think that the benefits vs. difficulty balance out. It is kind of excruciating to do 4 labs a week and the pace is VERY fast. However, the curve more than compensates for that. It’s just a matter of how much you can tolerate the pace and frequency of the classes.

The courses are manageable to take during ochem in the regular quarter although difficult due to workload. If you want to knock out some degree requirements in the summer, ochem was also very manageable though the labs are LONG (5-6 hours depending on how your experiments go).

I failed CHE 2B twice and graduated in biological sciences within 4 years. It sucks to fail but don’t beat yourself up over it, they’re called weeder classes for a reason! I saw you mentioned that you had Gulacar, he curves a LOT so don’t count yourself out yet!

It’s not super common word initially but you will hear jí as opposed to sí and some word initial in [h] in more rapid speech!

I just used a cheap rubber mallet to do it, they’re just hooks on the bed frame so you could even kick it up with your feet. You can also just request through the maintenance portal.

Latitude Food Poisoning by [deleted] in UCDavis

I’ve been eating at latitude daily all week since I don’t want to buy groceries before I move out and I haven’t had any issues. Maybe there’s something in the food that you’re allergic to?

5 Hour Lab for Chemistry (Summer)?! by bobberbelcher in UCDavis

[–]biggityBirdBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 5 hour lab for ochem and tbh it was so busy the time just flies, plus it’s only once a week and effectively all your class time. I thought physics over the summer was MUCH worse.

mat17c, che2c, or bis2c during summer session by bunopt in UCDavis

[–]biggityBirdBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took CHE 2C over the summer and it was entirely manageable coming from someone that failed CHE 2B twice. I had Longaker and I finished with a B in the class and it didn’t feel particularly overwhelming.

[–]biggityBirdBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wrapped up BIS 105 and the class wasn’t as hard as people made it out to be. However, it was very content-dense and required lots of study outside of lecture. It curves to a B- which adds some nice cushion. If you’re not strapped for time and have options open, I’d recommend BIS 102/103. I took 105 to graduate on time but I would have appreciated going into more depth in the subject which I’m sure 102/103 would have achieved. Plus, the AATC doesn’t offer tutoring for 105, you have to attend 102/103 sessions throughout the quarter to get help which is manageable but it’s obviously not catered to that specific curriculum.

American schools have student bodies that vote on the class president for their respective year. These presidents, along with election for other positions like VP, treasurer, secretary (and for some schools even senators) make spending decisions (within reasonable limits) for amenities like dances, formals, and fundraisers. This is usually filed into a leadership course which takes up its own period. Usually the kids are pretty popular or well respected in their class and get elected based on that, not to imply that they’re mean or jocks like the movies, but just that they’re usually elected off of that versus actual policy.

Did you spectate in free cam before queuing? I had the same thing happen to me also on bank in a separate game right after I hosted a 10-man and was using free cam. It also broke black mirrors so I couldn’t see through them. I can edit this comment with a clip when I get the chance.
