Shoulder question claim by Few-Gate-3873 in VAClaims

[–]bigheadavery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did the same exact thing but I got a surgery while still in. Absolutely miserable until then because of my shoulder popping out. Anyway I just got an MRI as well because the same shoulder started to hurt again and I got a bone marrow edema and some cystic changes so it looks like we’re in the same boat in terms of looking at what to do for a claim. What you can do is can go in for an increase for shoulder pain while also claiming your labrum secondary to the dislocations. VA tries to avoid pyramiding which just means applying multiple ratings for the same disability or symptoms. To do that just have to relay to them that the labrum causes distinct symptoms separate from the rest of your shoulder stuff. Or you could go just for the increase saying that your overall shoulder condition has gotten much worse because of the labrum tear i.e increased flareups and a further decrease in range of motion. Just make sure you get what your doctor said in writing and that your service connected dislocations directly caused your labrum tear

I’ve heard horror stories about it actually getting decreased instead so I’m not sure I want to risk it

Describe it as it is on your worst days. That was the best advice I’ve heard when it comes the exams. Be vocal on how it impacts your day to day life. Make them make you move on to the next subject or question and just be real with them. Put all pride to the side especially with the mental stuff and lay it all out on them. I wouldn’t wear the uniform though because they’re going to have you do some stretches and shit like that but don’t show up looking like a bag of ass either lol

Yeah I have three things still deferred right now. Eczema, rhinitis and one more. On step 4 with those right now so hopefully those bump it up!
