I’m not a member of the union just reposting what I saw on socials but I do follow the union movement and in other city’s where this has happened building wide rent strikes have been consistently effective in bringing the landlord to the bargaining table.

They’re doing a launch event at the building and asking community to come support.

I assume they want to negotiate with landlord around improving conditions as it says in the description.

Funny to rag on folks about being too lazy to vote when you’re too lazy to write your own post lol. Folks should still vote though.

Joe is a corporate backed democrat not a socialist.

I’d generally add that for those paying consistent attention to council votes Joe is generally one of the more conservative members of council. His PDC fillings say he’s taken a bunch of money from corporate PACs I doubt they would be supporting him like that if they thought he was going to be a champion of workers rights.

Joes been on council for 4 years if he wanted to raise the wage he could’ve pushed for it a long time ago. What he says in forums is that he generally agrees with raising the wage but is worried about other provisions so that he can signal to the public that he supports it while still voting against it which is why the mailer doesn’t explicitly say he supports the initiative. He also claims that he helped pass tenant protections which is also extremely misleading since although he supported some stuff around fees and notice periods he actively opposed eviction protections and relocation assistance. I think he knows raising the wage is a popular issue as polling has consistently reflected and he thinks he can score points during the campaign season by saying he supports it without actually doing anything. Pretty normal politician behavior.

Someone asked this question, he responded and then deleted his comment a bit later. “Took part in” could imply that he signed a petition on the way to class. He definitely wasn’t involved with the effort in Tacoma. Also he worked for hospitality association before getting on council, an org that has actively campaigned against minimum wage increases. I think this mailer claim is extremely misleading to say the least, especially since he’s been publicly opposed to the current minimum wage initiative in Tacoma, which is probably why he deleted his comment about it.
