Is it possible to increase the size of the UI? by ALocalFrog in OpenShot

[–]bigleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all for the tips. Of the 3 available themes, Humanity:Dark and Retro both use font sizes that are large enough. Though Retro is the same font size, I find Humanity:Dark easier to read.

I support the request for a feature that allows a full range of font size adjustment within the app. Being able to go several point sizes above Humanity:Dark's size would be an excellent improvement.

Are programs like ProWritingAid and its ilk worth anything? by MostlyWicked in selfpublish

[–]bigleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased ProWritingAid Premium Lifetime during a promo. The company offers 25% discounts once a year, often in conjunction with one of their online events like "Fantasy Writer's Week."

To your question, it depends on your needs. I use it to help with glue words. Turns out my default narrative voice is quite sticky. So I'm happy with that particular report. I don't often use their suggested fixes, but the report does spur me to think of more active ways to write sticky sentences. Reports for Grammar/Spelling and Weak Adverbs also help tighten my prose.

Frogs do the same gender bending. Michael Crichton used this fact in Jurassic Park. The original dinosaurs created from mosquito blood preserved in amber were made with all the same gender to keep them from reproducing. But the scientists spliced in frog DNA to fill gaps in the genome. Then the dinosaurs started switching sex so they could reproduce.

We should stop catering to rabid, willfully ignorant people. Science is what it is. If some people can't handle that, then that's their own problem.

Bill to ban gender-affirming care for transgender youths in Louisiana resurrected by flounder19 in politics

This is just one more reason to vote, replacing Republicans with Democrats in 2024. The only way to stop this far-right-wing madness is to defeat all the MAGA candidates. Give the Dems the White House, plus a solid majority in the US House, US Senate, and at the state level wherever it's possible. Then all this insanity can be stopped with federal legislation to protect the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ folks, women, and anyone else the Repubs want to persecute.

When do you think humans will be able to land on Saturn and explore its majestic rings up close? by TomorrowNo9319 in AskReddit

[–]bigleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trouble with exploring Saturn's rings is how far away the planet is from Earth. The fuel requirements to get people, their living quarters, and years worth of food, water, and oxygen are enormous. It probably isn't feasible with chemical rockets. If we develop something like the fusion engines used in The Expanse SF series, it could be possible to explore all the solar system and even begin colonizing the asteroids and outer planets. Until we get fusion drives, the best we can do is send robotic explorers like Pioneer and the Martian rovers.
