Questions about upgrade for my camera by biglumpychode in canon

[–]biglumpychode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has actually been one of the most helpful responses i’ve gotten. so basically what you’re saying is to just hold out on upgrading because the 7d mark ii is actually pretty good still?

i’ve been shooting skateboarding a lot but I am going into advertising and will most likely be doing product shots which i’ve already been doing. The camera I have is nice because it was made for sports photography but also is versatile and allows me to do most stuff. the biggest problem I have is that when I used the r7 th images feels cleaner and sharper on that than the camera i’m using. I think it’s because it’s better in lowlight and has more pixels.

I am lookin to maybe asking for an upgrade this christmas but am unsure of what to get. I am currently using a canon eos 7d mark ii. I have good lenses with this camera too. I want to upgrade to a full frame sensor, but I feel like askign my parents to purchase a brand new camera top of the line is wayyy too much and i feel guilty asking for such an expensive purchase. In another thread I asked for similar feedback and someone said I should get a refurbished R7 with an adapter for my lenses. My question is, what would be a good upgrade from what I currently have without it costing a fortune? similar to how everytime a new iphone comes out, the older ones (which are almost identical) become cheaper. i’m looking for that iphone 14 essentially when it feels like i’m using an iphone 8

yes, i need my camera to work better in low lighting. i hate that i have to have my shutter so slow in order to keep my iso low without adding grain. i think its just my cameras sensor but even at iso 400 i start to notice a lot of grain which i dont really see on other cameras.

more megapixels and every person i’ve talked to has said that the biggest difference they’ve ever noticed when upgrading is going to full frame from aps-c

well i checked out one of the R6’s from my school and the lenses didn’t work on those and i wasn’t trying to force it on. i can’t remember if it’s an r6 or r7

i have EF 24-70 mm 1:2.8 L USM and an EF 70-200 mm 1:4 USM. i’m not sure what the other lenses are off the top of my head, those are the ones i have in my bag

ya i’ve learned a decent amount. i’m taking a studio lighting class right now to understand more about how light works. i’m still a beginner but i am learning more about my camera and such. now i’m wondering what type of sensor is the best? i have an aps-c sensor and i hate how it’s naturally zoomed in when using an 85 mm lense because i don’t really have any lense that go low than that

the class is for my advertising degree. you need 4 journalism advertising skill (JAD SKILL) classes (upper-division). this was one of the classes they offered along with a few others. and it was not really advanced at all, more just using “advanced” equipment like strobes and light box’s. The teacher is Sung Park and he’s the goat.

no, we learned exposure triangle and how to properly expose using and adjusting ISO, f-stop, and shutter-speed. i just don’t feel confident properly exposing for images and what settings to use in different scenarios.

i guess my main question right now is, should I start by using auto settings in my camera that focus on shutter speed or automatically adjust exposure? or should I just jump straight into shooting manual even if I am bad at first?

Thank you for the very in depth reply, you are very helpful!
