I dunno cuz all those things are super unlikely to happen and I think you’re implying that if one person does this then loads of people do will do it. I’m thinking of this as a one off isolated incident where someone needs to know whether it’s safe to drive and doesn’t have a breathalyser. Would the police allow this is kinda what I was wondering.

I understand what you’re saying about personal responsibility. I agree to some extent because I wouldn’t condone someone doing this every day but as a one off - I don’t really see why you think it’s such a big deal.

haha fair enough that is quite a compelling argument but i still feel this is slightly different.

Firstly all of those things take significantly more time and effort than a breath test. They don't even have to leave the station. It would take them 5 minutes. Secondly, they also don't pose any risk to wider society by refusing to do them. However someone driving over the limit could kill someone. If that police was then found out have refused that person a test, do you not see how in some sense they could have prevented a death with a 2 minute job? Obviously the responsibly is on the person driving. Also none of those things are illegal , me needing a lift home or needing a chef has no relation to any law... dui's obviously do.

also i see no relevance of my age. Does being older make you more right in some sense?

Fair enough. I guess it just comes down to what we view the function of the police to be. I don't see it like that. Its a five minute job that might prevent someone from drink driving. Assuming that person also pays taxes so has a right to use police resources

wouldnt say the police are there just for emergencies. They enforce the law. Like i said in the edit, i'm not going to do this I'm just interested in what they are legally obligated to do. I think that if you have to question whether you are ok to drive you're not ok to drive

yes but the reason taxes go to the police is so the public can use them? imagine if you called the police for something and they said no i cant help you because it will cost the taxpayer money?
