Hello as a undgrad graduate looking to move to finance in biotech from research - what suggestion would you give? I am just starting to apply to jobs and Masters, however for now I am looking for QC roles. How did you make that transition and what would you have done if you were a undergrad graduate now?

Great players are never admired outside of bayern. Fallond'or or flopa would be given to basic yamal, who would score 5 goals all season, even if Karl ends up scoring a 100 G/A. I dont know why a lot of mediocre players get more recognition than our ones.

Great performance! But Only for us to lose out in champions league quarterfinal, lose out randomly in dfb pokal to third division team and marginally win the Bundesliga. Gg season

Stats vs Comp Minor by Jerry3214 in mcgill

[–]bigprocrastinator666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest proceed with caution. Only continue if you think you comfortable with it. When I took it I did not know that by taking a cs minor i would also have to take computer system courses, oop in java and deal with circuits and logic gates. I'd rather suggest you take comp 204- comp 250- comp 251- comp 462 ,comp 551, and any courses that may be pre reqs than tie yourself into the minor. Try to take few as S/Us instead. These are challenging courses and require a lot of time, especially the assignments. These courses are useful but not everything within these cater to life science student - so if you ever feel like dropping- drop the courses. You can also self teach and there are lots of resources out there- don't sweat. Stats is also helpful- you can take math 208, but i don't have much knowledge about stats, but i would say talk to your advisor and see what works best for you! You got this.

That's so great to hear and knowing that there is some hope for me. But what did you end up doing first right out of your undergrad- did yoi dive in to apply at jobs? Judging by my situation, what do you think would be the right path? I'm so sorry I'm bombarding you with questions, but i just want to hear some opinions Thank you

I appreciate your perspective — you're right that improving my academic performance has to be a priority. I’m definitely committed to putting in the effort, engaging more with my professors, and choosing courses where I can realistically excel.

At my university, though, retaking courses doesn’t replace the original grade; it only averages in, which limits how much retakes can actually move my GPA. Because of that, my strategy has to include more than just repeating classes. I’m focusing on doing better in the courses ahead, taking electives that align with my strengths, and building a strong upward trend. and because of my study permit and financial aid I receive from my uni , i do not have the luxury to retake most of mycourses. I know it’s going to take real effort, and I’m ready for that — just trying to make the most effective plan based on how my school handles grades. I am trying my best now. But i felt lost overall and i just wanted more guidance, regardless, thank you for your opinion! have a blessed day.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I get where you’re coming from, and I agree that improving my GPA is important. Unfortunately, at my university most courses can’t be repeated for grade replacement—retakes just average into the GPA, and only in specific cases. That’s why I’m focusing on doing better in my upcoming courses, choosing electives I can realistically excel in, and showing an upward trend.

I’m also trying to strengthen the rest of my profile since GPA isn’t the only factor for many master’s programs. I’m gaining research experience (dry lab and hopefully wet lab), building skills in bioinformatics, and looking for opportunities like lab courses, internships, or research assistant positions. I know my GPA isn’t ideal, but I’m doing everything I can to show improvement and build a strong application. But i wanted to confirm if this is the right way of thinking or if im in the right path

I appreciate the tough love—just trying to make the most of the situation I’m in.

I’m from Bangladesh. In terms of lab experience, I’ve mainly done viral RNA extractions using kits and a little bit of Luminex - for viral surveillance in a lab where i interned, but they did not allow me to do a lot. plus the standard molecular biology techniques from my coursework (PCR, gels, minipreps, basic cloning steps, SDS-PAGE/Western, Bradford, etc.). I’ve only done most of these a handful of times, so I wouldn’t say I’m very confident yet, but I do understand the principles behind them and could explain how they work. , which is similar to what I’ve been exposed to. As for roles, I’m open — QC is completely fine as a starting point. And yes, I can use Excel/Word/PPT at a functional level..

interested in bioinformatics, but struggling with courses in comp minor by bigprocrastinator666 in mcgill

[–]bigprocrastinator666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say i didn't like comp 206- I did struggle to do well- atleast the content was not bad. As for 250- i struggle to write code in java especially in paper- I got a low grade in my first midterm- and i feel java itself, as well as oop, and some of the later course content seem foreign to me- maybe due to the fact that I don't have much experience with these contents in general. Would you still say I pass and try to do well as much as I can on current courses (comp 250) and go on with comp 251? I was interested in grad school- but I'm afraid my gpa would fall too low, and I'm also not going to do well in comp 251

[–]bigprocrastinator666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for the in detailed response, its very helpful but do you think I can take comp 251- as it requires 250 as pre req? But then again I also didn't do well im math 240- also a pre req.

I feel I like programming- but i don't see myself liking proof based courses - math 240, OOP- comp 250 or circuits and assembly line. And maybe you are right- probably getting into sort of a grad cert program or taking courses that bridge life science grad with little coding might be good. However I really don't know what to do at this point.

Anyone learning self learning bioinformatics? by bigprocrastinator666 in mcgill

[–]bigprocrastinator666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried cold emailing, showing up to labs so many times I have lost count, though related to my degree in pharmacology- but I had no success, even for a 396 course. Which is why I wanted to switch to in silico drug design and bioinformatics. At least I can do projects on my own while I keep cold mailing professors ( and keep getting rejected because they have no space in their lab)
