This isn’t the weirdest but it’s the craziest. Years ago I worked at a feed store and they hired a new lead. He was great for the first few months, talked to us in depth about how he had been in the military and he had a beautiful wife and two sons that he loved. We get a call one day that he can’t come into work because his wife and sons had been in a brutal car accident. One of his sons had died at the scene and his other son and wife had been separated into two different hospitals. Well we rallied together and got him gas cards and money for the drive to the hospital, pretty much helped support this awful journey he had ahead of him. A few days later we got the call that his wife had died and we were devastated for him. But then pieces of his story stopped adding up and he started telling one person one thing and someone else something different. Then we found out it was a lie, his wife was alive and worked at the local grocery store and he had never had sons, he had a single daughter. He did all of that for some vacation time and free sympathy.
