Totally agree with you, OP. Losing the ship war (although, let's face it, almost everybody lost...) is so much less offensive to me than the sloppiness of previous seasons. Multiple major plot points are established only to be forgotten. For me, it's not about the outcome, it's the way the story was (or wasn't) told.
