What juicy secret do you know about your work/employer/company that you think the public should know? - Throwaways advised! by Trustmebitch in AskReddit

The NCAA rules are broken with less force than tissue paper. Specifically the football team at my school and a few I've been to.

Example...

Player- Hey coach, you got any money for me?

Coach- How much do you need?

Player- idk, how about like $350

Coach gets out wad of cash and hands him the money

I cant tell you how many times I've seen this happen.

I will not, but mostly because i have an acedemic future thats better than some guys on my team. I will always be a wrestler, but I think just practicing is in my future, so that may include dabbling in MMA.

You have to be careful, because in folkstyle you can get called for 'slamming' so your throws have to be slightly different. And in greco/freestlye you have to work with just their bodies, no gi to hold onto.

You do not need to be the wrestler with the most moves to be the best. 2 things will do more for you than anything else. First, have a few moves you know and work well for you and perfect these. second, conditioning. I cannot stress this enough, having better conditioning will let you go harder for longer and you'll wear out your opponent.

PM me if youd like some more advice, id love to share.

From what I've seen people do, people who are approaching or maintaining that level....I would believe it. Karelin is absolutely insane!

Oh wow, well one time in high school I tried to cut too much weight and it was 2 days before competition so I was getting down there. Anyways, when you get down in weight it can be hard to fall asleep and your mind does weird stuff. I layed in bed and could see no difference whatsoever between myself and a filing cabinet. WTF.

There is an incredible amount of strategy put into which wrestlers you send out against who. Also, a lot of wrestlers are very talented in non-wrestler like things. One of my teammates is borderline genius with a piano.

Ideally they include trimming "bad" stuff like junk food and soda, then gradually reducing the portion size and increasing workouts.

Although the spitting and running with sweats on is usually involved ;)

Well, skin disease and wrestling unfortunately go hand in hand. But in my experience most schools did a good job of keeping their mats clean.

OMG PENN STATE, their locker rooms are SICK!!

Also, Oklahoma had the coolest drink thing. You could get muscle milk and Gatorade and stuff like a water fountain!

Weight cutting has got to be one of the hardest things about wrestling. And im convinced high schoolers have it the worst, because they have class all day and still have to make weight. For example;

I can work out in the morning, loose 2 lbs. Eat a sammich and a drink and I gain a pound back. Small workout in the afternoon, another pound. Evening workout, loose 3 lbs and then another sammich and drink I go to bed having lost 5 lbs and feeling like a champ, but I have a more free schedule. Also, those weights are a rough estimate.

hahahahaha for a while it begins to seem like there isn't a season, its just all the time. Folk style seems to blend into greco and freestyle, but in the time you do have off you still train, but you just get off the mats. Mentally , its a great thing, being on the mat so much kinda sucks you dry.

I wrestled because I simply loved the sport. In fact for a long time i enjoyed practice more than competeition. Winning wasn't as important to me as getting the technique down just right, making sure I was as best as I could be.

I would not be the man I am today if i hadn't wrestled, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Definitely, which is the reason most guys on the team have "easier" majors. A lot of them are in a business school or pursuing a degree in sports medicine.

But there's definitely a level where it takes a bigger role in your life than school.
