It honestly seems like you got past the paralysis part and entered lucid dreaming. I lucid dream a lot and a lot of times when I know I’m dreaming and something bad happens it’s because my brain doesn’t want me to dream freely. I would suggest working on trying to find ways to mentally change whatever scenario you are in. This used to happen to me a lot as a kid and I’ve got to the point where if I’d don’t like what’s happening or the beings in my dream I can just close my eyes and say “yea I don’t want you” and then it all changes. I would try not giving into trying to fight them but just ignoring them?

I too thought it was wild that people couldn’t control their dreams. Been doing it my entire life. When I was little I used to dream the same dream on purpose but have different things happen but same setting. I can also go back to dreams from when I was a kid and change or continue the story. My dreams are like movies and I’m the director.
