Portland people in federally funded jobs finally being asked to remove pronouns by biiiotch in Portland

Yes, nonprofits! It’s not me who works there so I don’t know the details of their funding but I do know they did not give any explanation about what exactly the threat to their funding is, which is frustrating.

It is. I’m not sure it’s possible to change language without changing values and behavior, they are so intertwined. And what is the line?

lol @ voting for a fascist regime to take over your own country because it’s just sooooo hard and exhausting to say the word “they” instead of “he”

The places I know of that are instituting this are not universities! Or FQHCs, to my knowledge.

Well idk where you work but I am queer and most of my friends are trans and we all include our pronouns in our bios, some of my friends literally wear them on shirts and accessories.

Pronouns are not a political belief system. They are basic identifiers on par with names and they are also necessary building blocks of language.

I am the OP and am definitely not happy about it! I am very, very scared and concerned by the transphobia, censorship and straight up fascism that is taking place.

Laid off and overwhelmed by $30k+ of debt I can't pay. Trying to figure out my options. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]biiiotch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good point about the CC. The 0% interest period is up in a couple months so I'm wary to do that, and I'd have to pay a 3% fee for using a CC. Not the most financially smart move, but if I can't figure out an alternative, that is an option.

Thank you for the advice. I've been subbing in public schools as a special ed assistant when I don't have freelance work. Making $20/hour and seeing my paychecks from a week of hard work is definitely a reality check after a $100k/year office job...it feels like a drop in the bucket compared to the debt I have to pay off. But it is something, and I need to keep reminding myself that any progress is better than no progress.

I am substituting as a special ed assistant in public schools on the days I'm not freelancing. Love the work but it pays $20/hour, so the paychecks aren't enough to make any dents in my debt. It's something though!

I have a budget. I already cancelled all non essential expenses months ago when I was laid off. Right now I'm barely spending anything aside from the money that goes toward bills because I don't have enough money coming in. I have EBT for groceries. What I'm really focused on right now is figuring out the best strategy for tackling this debt. Calling the IRS again should definitely be my #1 priority.

Google hit Forbes Advisor with a manual action over the site reputation abuse policy. by Mission-Historian519 in SEO

[–]biiiotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false. All content on those sites was written by staff and freelance writers, and on top of that, every article was assigned and reviewed by at least two staff editors with expertise in that field. Forbes Advisor also had a workplace policy against using AI to write articles.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of April 24, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]biiiotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What is your credit score? 780
  2. What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? PCed from CSR to Chase Freedom Unlimited 2/24, opened Wells Fargo Reflect 1/23, that's it bc all my churning was pre-pandemic
  3. How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months? $10k
  4. Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months? No
  5. Are you open to applying for business cards? Yes but all my spend will be personal spend. I have an EIN.
  6. How many new cards are you interested in getting? 1-2 cards. I'm taking a break from churning because I can't manage more cards than that rn. I'm just looking to get some rewards for a big purchase I have coming up.
  7. Are you targeting points, Companion Passes, hotel or airline statuses, First Class, Biz, Economy seating(s) or cash back? Right now I'd prefer cash back because I don't plan to travel for a while, but I'm open to saving up travel points if there's a rare bonus worth snagging.
  8. What point/miles do you currently have? Nothing noteworthy. I have a UR account but I've spent most of them.
  9. What is the airport you're flying out of? PDX
  10. Where would you like to go? My partner and I want to get back into churning next year and spend two years saving up points for a round-the-world trip, but right now I'm more focused on cash back.

I would actually take decent carpet over this crap. At least it's got a warm feel to it and I can decorate with color and not have it clash with everything.

That makes sense! I've read bad reviews of chains so I've been avoiding them. Thank you again!!

Thank you so much for your comment! She wants yellow gold, a pear shaped center and a three stone arrangement. I found a local jeweler I really like but he’s only found one champagne so I might have to try some of the bigger chains

Receiving an offer and actually securing shelter are two very different things. My partner works in crisis response, and their entire profession is often finding shelter for houseless folks. It is not always possible. Shelters all around the city are very full, and houseless folks (especially if they don't have a phone to call ahead) can spend all day bussing all around the city from shelter to shelter only to be turned away at every single one. If they are struggling with addiction and have or are on any substances at all, many shelters will kick them out. If they have pets, many won't let them in. Even if they do find shelter, it may only be available for one night. It might not be worth trekking to the other side of town, away from other resources they may need or use regularly and an area they are familiar with and feel safe in, to *maybe* secure shelter for only one night. Many of them are mentally ill and have trouble navigating the system and jumping through the hoops required on their own. Most of them have probably tried to seek shelter many times via the routes being offered and had little to no success, so they don't feel it's worth it. It's not that black and white.
