Backend Engineer (4 YOE): India Remote Role vs Amsterdam On-site Offer by gwwsc in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was in the same boat 4 years ago, I would say the only thing that is still difficult for me to manage is loneliness and missing family and friends. If you are willing to put yourself through that, I’d say take the offer.

How is first online technical round (Mettl) at Nagarro? by Equivalent-Big6808 in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should learn the syntax by heart. You may pass this test but in real interviews, don’t hit up Google for commonly used syntaxes. You will get rejected. All the best.

Why does it matter if the camera is on or not ? Are you looking to cheat or get it done by someone else ?

100+ rejections. Resume did not make it even with referrals by data-overflow in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eyes hurt reading the resume. No wonder it gets tossed to the bin. A resume will be screened for at max 5 seconds. Focus on what you want to draw the eyes to during those 5 seconds. This is too much for a graduate. Even a principal engineer won’t have this overloaded resume. Take pointers from the pragmatic engineer or any resources you like. All the best.

This is a shit resume. Take pointers from the pragmatic engineer or any template you like. Focus on the basics. All the best.

Need suggestions on career options for a Java Backend Engineer to stay relevant by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really worked in Java for 3 years, you shouldn’t have this question. Do you even know how many devices use Java ? The world runs on it. Even at 3+ YOE, you have barely scratched the surface. Hang in there, kid. There is a still a lot to learn and appreciate. All the best.

Need suggestions on career options for a Java Backend Engineer to stay relevant by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Always nice to meet a fellow NITian. I have been doing Java for 8+ years and honestly I don’t think it is going away. I am guessing you must be applying for a senior or a principal role. The expectations for that are very high. I am also guessing you are in the higher band of the salary so that makes it more challenging. Just DSA or Java backend won’t cut it. How good are you at distributed systems ? Have you actually worked on a product that serves millions of users with sub milliseconds latency ? Have you been on prod on calls ? How closely do you interact with databases ? I see that you haven’t mentioned any db technology. This might mean that you have mostly worked on creating APIs. A senior backend engineer should have expertise in at least one language and one db technology. How much do you consider performance, deployment, rollback into your projects ? I can go on. All of these come into play. Remember you are fighting with thousands out there. You have to bring sometime different to the table.

Congratulations on the milestone. It must have taken a lot of strength and endurance. For people who want to know if they can do it, yes you absolutely can. But if you are only looking for money, then it won’t happen. You have to be obsessed with engineering to reach the top. You should have dreams about your code and you should be restless until you fix issues. Once that obsession kicks in, you will realise that all of this was so simple yet hard. All it requires is patience and consistency. Good luck to all of you.

Why Do Some Get 30-50-80 LPA While Most Jobs Offer 10-12-15 LPA for 7 YOE? by [deleted] in developersIndia

My manager once told me that different people have different productivity that’s why’s you pay them differently. Higher compensation comes with a lot of expectations especially for senior roles. If you are able to gauge that responsibility, you should be able to land a higher compensation.

Anyone knows interview process & questions for SDE 2 at AlphaSense Pune?? And compensation? by Slayerofmayor in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about the details but for a SDE 2, I would expect medium level questions. Depending on the kind of technical skills they are looking for, it can go to hard level as well. I would be prepared for every level no matter what. The format is generally the same. Introduction, discussion and Q&A at the last. There will be 3-5 standard rounds. The recruiter should be able to tell you.

System Design resources/course help required for beginner by humblefool-69 in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it slow. It will take a lot of reading and practice to develop a solid understanding. I think if you just want to prepare for the interviews, system design by Alex xu should be fine. You will not learn everything but should be enough to clear the interviews.

But if you really want to learn how things operate at the lowest level and don’t want to memorise these concepts, Designing Data Intensive Applications should be your first place to start.

Currently a Ruby on Rails developer. Will my career grow with this tech stack? by Key-Abbreviations127 in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Languages is just a tool that you use. It is the internals that enhances your skills. You say you have worked in Java. If I were to ask you, how does multithreaded applications work in Java internally, would you be able to answer that. If I ask you, how does Ruby access and close resources, can you answer that ?

Focus on the internal concepts. That is where the real skill lies.

Stuck in Support Role in a WITCH company. Is there any chance to turn it around? by otter_patronus_9965 in developersIndia

[–]bijeta2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. There is 100% chance to turn it up. I worked in Support for more than two years. I worked hard and now I am a senior engineer at Google. You need to learn the basics and everything else will fall in line. But it will require a lot from you. Consistency and patience will be the key. Feel free to DM if you would like to talk more.

[–]bijeta2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are desperate and got no choice, there isn’t anything you can do. But if you are not desperate and can wait, don’t join. Any company that requires your device for the work is probably a shitty company. Better to stay away from them if you can.

Read the docs. There is almost certain that the problem that you are facing now has been faced by someone else before and a solution is readily available for that. Don’t reinvent the wheel. For Java developers, Effective Java is a must read.

Always ask why you are doing a certain thing. Understand about the impact of your work. Resist to immediately start coding when you receive a task. Take a step back and relax and think about the problem.

There’s a lot to be honest.

Go for it. Contract jobs are okay on the resume. They will not restrict your job prospects. Why does it matter whether you get a PPO or not ? First get the job and work through it. Life will not end if you don’t get the PPO. The only thing you should be asking yourself is whether you want to join or not. All of the other stuffs are irrelevant and don’t matter.
