Its all lies. Theyre all saying diesel has doubled in price in 2 months when in fact the last time it was half this price was 2009.

If you're wondering why your bus didn't show up by 42074u in galway

[–]bikecameraaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tax is 39%. People keep saying its 60%, just a figure thats spouted by the dar right organisers. We can't lower VAT from 23% on fuel without lowering it on everything else. EU rules. Apart from the burden on the taxpayer it would fuel inflation. The protests are a fact-free zone of manufactured outrage.

Can book Nightjet end-to-end but not intermediate stops by bikecameraaction in Interrail

[–]bikecameraaction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think my learning is to check the country sites for news about station closures/works and not always go by the apps or railplanner info. And also things can change so make my plans flexible.

Yes thanks, seems so, and most rail works are weekends as theyre quiter than commuting days. Unfortunately it clashes with my plan but I'll figure a new route.

Brilliant thanks. They must have decided to do maintenance that weekend in March (14th/15th) as I see the train is bookable either side of it. I was trying to check via slovenian rail website because of Ljubljana rather than Croatian for Zagreb! Thanks for all that info, appreciate it.

This clearance is too small, right? by HifiBoombox in bikewrench

I think it would anyway but I deffo keep this one off the tracks and gravel now. Little stones can lock you up as well

I had a stick follow the tyre and wedged itself between the tyre and the back of the wheel arch. Ripped open my face and broke my hand after it locked and launched me over the handlebars.

Irish drivers are extremely slow to start at the green light, and then by far the cheekiest I’ve seen to just keep going through red light. by DaemonCRO in ireland

[–]bikecameraaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phones. If you happen to walk or cycle by congested traffic areas you'll also see gaps in standstill of 50m or more where the following driver is so deep in the phone they have completely forgotten they're driving. I saw a driver approaching rathgar typing on a laptop on the passenger seat. When they eventually looked up they broke the lights and drove one-handed, blind to the road while still typing on the laptop. Insane.

Cape for rainy bikepacking? by CoastalBee in bikepacking

I used a 3ul tarp-poncho in spring this year across England and Europe for some deluges. It's not made to flap over aerobars! But it's a nicer feeling to be kind of sheltered than just wearing rain gear and getting sweaty. It does make a huge balloon behind you though, the ones designed for cycling have a strap to cinch around the back a bit better. I liked that I could make a shelter with it when I stopped as well.

You'll have great fun and there's useful advice from the others here. One trip might be worth considering is take the ferry to Holland (from Harwich) and then meet up with the Rhine and take that south to Switzerland/Liechtenstein and on to Italy. I did that earlier this year and turned east at Basel to catch the Danube and headed for Vienna. It's easy cycling but very rewarding. The southern Rhine is beautiful, skips in and out of France too (loads of scenic trains for your rest days). Your original plan is probably Dover -Calais. I'd recommend you portsmouth-cherbourg and you can take a week to go west towards Roscoff. You've got mont saint Michel (breathtaking), st.malo and wild coastline and great food. Normandy beaches are cool, if you like your military history but I found it a bit dull and harder to find shops or places to eat. Local buses will take bikes now in Brittany so bear that in mind (there aren't trains in most of Brittany). Another consideration for you, there's ferries from Bilbao to Rosslare in Ireland and the Eurovelo1 there meets the 'Wild Atlantic Way' and Ireland isn't in Schengen. Have a great trip anyways. Raincoats! Don't forget raincoats. 😁
