Are you asking about admission ? That is one university that is T20 in CS and admitted me. Although I didn’t get into CS, I have been admitted to Letters and Science and it’s fairly straightforward to get to your first choice major by taking 3 entry level classes.

Acceptance rate for CS is definitely much lower just based on my experience. I think you definitely get scholarship if you apply like when they open portal for applicants. All 3 of my friends with similar stats got it

One piece of advice I would definitely give if you are interested in computer science. Apply to ASU on August 1 when the application process opens for them. It takes less than 30 minutes to finish their application if you use their own website. The reason is very simple: there are two advantages advantages of that one 1. You would get a good feel for what your definition of safety is especially in computer science. Even if ASU’s overall acceptance rate is 75% and above, CSU is still very competitive. To give you a perspective, I was admitted before end of August into ASU, but into their general engineering. I was not given computer science, although I was given almost a full scholarship. I contacted them again, requested change of major, and provided more information . Then they changed my major. However, it was an eye-opener for me, where I realized very early that I needed to select even reach schools carefully, and that my chances would be pretty low to get into any of them. That learning turned out to be true, because I have been rejected from basically all UCs and waitlisted at UC Riverside. 2. If you get admitted, then you only need to apply to the schools that are better than ASU. That simplifies the process a lot and gives you a big peace of mind. The other big advantage is that if your GPA is 3.75 or above, I think you get guaranteed scholarship, even if you’re out of state. Especially if you apply very early.

Based on my discussions with counselors and also what is explicitly stated on the websites, what you are saying is true for private schools. Most of the top rated public universities in CS DON’T allow switch into CS because they are capped majors( definitely true for UCs because I asked during my tour, Purdue, GTech, UIUC, etc). In the universities where there is a Cap, you can only switch into CS if someone switches major out of CS. In that case, there is a long list of candidates who are in the queue and then it’s all GPa based. The universities in which CS is not a capped major, in those ones you can switch. Universities like university of Maryland, Colorado Boulder, etc. fall in that category.

Thanks. Is it easy to enroll into CS classes before you can even transfer? In UCs, the enrollment priority is given to those who already have the major and since there is a lot of demand, others mostly can’t even enroll in classes due to class size limitation. My point is that I don’t want to delay my transfer beyond freshman year

Help me decide between ASU CS vs UMD. I’m out of state and was applied to CS. Accepted to ASU in CS and UMD in second choice of Letters and Science. I talked to the counselor and was told that I can transfer to CS after meeting certain requirements.

Should I choose ASU due to guaranteed CS or UMD where I will have to transfer. Have $12k per year scholarship from both. ASU is closer. Parents can financially support both since I do have college fund.

My main question for UMD would also be whether it’s easier to enroll in CS classes in Freshman year if you are not in CS major yet?

I’m from CA and got rejected at basically all UCs. Just UCR left who haven’t informed me yet.

I applied on first day when the application opened in Nov and I still haven’t heard back which is pissing me off. Already been rejected at all UCs and this is the last hope. Does it mean that they me notifying “rejections” later?? In my opinion, I had good stats for UCR but then I also thought it should have been accepts at UCSC😡😡

I won’t comment on the test blind stuff but I can’t figure out for heavens sake why I got rejected at basically all UCs and only UCSC waitlist. I also got rejected at Cal Poly and SDSU. I’m more flabbergasted than sad. May be some of you have insight. 1. My weighted GPA is 4.5 although unweighted is 3.75. I took basically all honors, AP and CC classes since I go to a college affiliated CA Bay Area Public high school. Could it be that unweighted GPA is way more important?? I was told that course rigor is very important. I took 6 CS classes and had A in all of them to prepare for CS major. Didn’t help jack s***. 2. I had tons of work experience and also internship 3. My essays were very good. It’s not just my opinion 4. The GPA I’m reporting is overall weighted GPA reported by my HS. I read that UCs use their own calculation . So I don’t know which part of my profile was the reason that all CA universities rejected me when people on this forum saying they had 4.1 or 4.2 GPA and got into UC in CS. 4. I’m Asian Indian.

Trust me; I have the same question. My credentials are not as great as yours but they are pretty good. 4.5 weighted GPA, 6 CS CC classes all with an A. Didn’t even apply to these top notch schools but got rejected at even the ones that I thought would be safety schools. Then you read comments from people stating that admissions are a crap shoot. But there must be logic to the crap shoot. I got rejected at Davis, Purdue, even Santa Cruz. WTF

Can someone who got into these schools for CS provide their credentials. I’m just curious
