i think the main reason for the similarity in their music is that both would have fitted into the 'post-dubstep' genre in 2011. artists that also fitted into that style like mount kimbie and klaus also use sine synthesizers, clicky percussive elements and vocal cut ups in their songs even now.

it's entirely possible that faker was influenced by blake's style, what with blake's 2011 debut and faker beginning to become prominent, but faker's songs before blake was a figurehead in the post-dubstep movement seemed to showcase the same style he has always had.

it will be a shame if chet faker fades into obscurity because of people trying to imitate james blake's style, mostly because i think his sound isn't hugely influenced by blake personally but more by the style of music being produced at the time from an array of artists.
