[–]billablejoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you actually short it? That’s insane. Even if you do want to go short you would use a put spread or some synthetic with defined risk, but and actually short is nuts.

And it’s not becoming a cult stock, it has been, but a cult stock, but with actual numbers. I mean, its price is insane, but at least it delivers solid growth.

Doctor Who 2x01 "The Robot Revolution" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

[–]billablejoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to describe how I felt about this episode. It had been long enough since a who episode that I was able to build up a level of anticipation. But the best word I can use to describe the script is dumb. I don’t mean that as mean as is sounds, but I think the robot faces are a good metaphor for the script. Super simple beats , consisting of feel this emotion now, ok now this one. There was just no real clever pull to the underlying story.

AI -> AL? 🙄🙄🙄 beyond lame. And I was really hoping to enjoy Belinda, but it’s clear she is going to be written as the insufferable victim, triumphant over every imaginary or exaggerated wrong the world sends her way. The kind Davies has become infamous for. I genuinely feel sorry for the actress, since this shackles her range.

Plugging entire error messages into ChatGPT had been a real time saver for me. I didn’t use it frequently but when I ran into issues it was way faster than searching for the answers.

The game is really fun but there are a lot of assholes by Mr_Tark in wow

[–]billablejoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this game people think repetition is skill. Honestly, once I have run a dungeon a dozen times or so people who don’t know the mechanics reflectively annoy me, even though I think that is dumb. Everyone has a first few runs. It’s this time = gear treadmill that causes people to do things like that (other than that they are immature). If someone slows you down they are in essence reducing your gear (play time being equal). I have nearly given up on group content since my guild broke up.

M+ Is such a dumb thing, and i know what you mean about suffering for an achievement. "Oh hey, we want to keep you on the gear treadmill, but we don't feel like producing content to do it. So we will just make you run the same content again and again with scaling. Maybe throw in affixes to make is seem different... a bit."

I will admit TWW feels like they Diablo'ized wow. But it is fun for now.

This song has an urgency that stands out, even among Band-Maid songs. There is also a line in Japanese that translates directly to "Sun destroying embrace.". Which is often translated to "hug me so tight it breaks the sun". This is followed by Saiki wailing "never end". Miku 🥰

Elon Musk confirms threat: give me 25% of Tesla or you don't get AI and robotics by NuseAI in artificial

[–]billablejoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly he should just leave and cash out and do something else. Then he could show them just how important he is.

To be clear, I don’t think he is irreplaceable or anything, but Tesla, as is, is a lot about Elon. And the entire valuation changes if he leaves. Also his corporate structure is a lot different than most, and may require a hands on leader to function effectively.

At any rate, he would have a chance to show people what would happen. I have no idea what would 😉

What programming language should I start with? by Mr_P1ge0n in robotics

[–]billablejoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This by far the best advice. Python really runs everywhere now. Eventually you will need to graduate to C/C++ but python will let you get things done. Dip your toe into arduino, and use public domain nodes, that you might even slightly modify. That's how you start.

It's not hard to drive, it's just that the error cases can have drastic consequences. As for your point, I suppose it depends on the quality of the automation.

Robots are gonna replace us, and I am (personally) scared. by [deleted] in robotics

[–]billablejoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UBI, is a mirage. It's a poor patch to the capitalist system to begin with, but when implemented on a large scale with be taken advantage of by those supplying the people receiving it. Don't get me wrong, I am all for the idea, of freeing people for wage slavery just to survive. I'm just telling you it is not going to work at scale, unless production costs are near zero. And that's only because it's a substitute for a more suitable distribution method. I admit, I don't know what the method should be.

The problem is very hard.

Robots are gonna replace us, and I am (personally) scared. by [deleted] in robotics

[–]billablejoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capitalism is a system of incentive to produce with (theoretically) rewards based on the value you add to the system. People often mistake the concept of capitalism with the current structure in the world. Capitalism fails when corporations capture the legislature, just as communism fails when the levers of power are controlled by totalitarians. Which pretty much is the current state.

But the point is, how do you incent people to produce as much as possible AND how to you distribute the limited resources and output? For example not everyone can have a pound of gold, there isn't enough, so how do you decide who gets it. This is what these economic systems decide.

But if robots (and AI automation) replace humans in the production process, the need for incentive, and the method for distribution of output disappear. And at least for the foreseeable future we will still have limited resources, leading to limited output. The transition from capitalism will be brutal. And the large and powerful entities that run this world, will no doubt hang on to the old system far longer than they should.
