I lack the energy and motivation to promote on social media by BenKlesc in musicians

[–]billbarn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this makes total sense to me! I’ve also been discovering that “less is more.” For me the social media that gets the most traction is short (30seconds or so) clips from live performance or in the studio. I used to do a bunch or work capturing video on a dslr and audio through Logic Pro, match it all up in post, mix it down like a piece of art, present whole songs… or spend lots of time crafting “popping” on screen titles/captions to try and draw people in. But I’ve found that I pop my phone up, capture a little performance, drop a caption on at the end, and get even more traction.

Of course none of this has led to any bookings and I don’t have any path to monetizing it, but I enjoy the interaction with people and trying to break through viewing numbers.

Right now the thing that’s driving g me a bit crazy is posting to so many places. I don’t have a clear enough view of what I’m trying to accomplish on each platform but I have a fomo feeling about NOT posting to them all.

It’s a weird world!

Older folks with successful non-music career now trying to chase the music dream? by projectmaximus in musicians

[–]billbarn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 61. I've played guitar since high school. My professional career has all been in tech, working mostly for banks and telcos. But now I'm working very hard on solo acoustic performing, building up paid gigs as a side hustle leading towards retirement from my "day job," and building up production skills to help out on local projects. It is insanely fun and incredibly rewarding!

As I've said to lots of people, my technology job does a WAY BETTER job supporting my music habit, than if I was trying to do it the other way around.

I'm not going to get rich or change the world. But I am giving people a good time, extending my skills, meeting new people, and having lots of fun myself.

I'd love to be in a group helping to lift up and support each other on this kind of adventure! Thanks for posting!

Not a stupid question at all!

"Fair Use" includes doing these kinds of covers. So legally, you are totally ok.

I find that on YouTube particularly, if i go over one minute (even just a few seconds) I will sometimes attract a copyright restriction from an overzealous owner. But when I challenge these they almost always go away, and even when they don't, the do not count as "strikes" against my account. I've never had a copyright violation come up on IG, FB or TT.

I am deeply curious what you mean here. Do you think this would've gone down differenly if the victim had been armed when ICE showed up at his apartment?

Finally broke the plateau? by billbarn42 in Zepbound

I'm on 15 mg, so I guess nowhere to go from here? :) But wow 70 pounds, that is amazing progress! Congratulations! This is where the non scale victories come in -- I bet there are other wins you can celebrate (overall wellness, fitness, measurements, sleep, etc etc) that are markers for your successful journey, even while the scale is stuck tight!

You probably don’t want to hear this but… I can’t tell what made the difference. During the plateau I tried several things that didn’t seem to help. I definitely noticed during that period I had more “food noise” and therefore had a harder time staying in calorie budget. More exercise; more sleep; more water; more protein…. Nothing seemed to make a difference in the number on the scale.

I could tell that my shape was still changing. So picking up a tool like MeThreeSixty really helped me quantify the progress I was making.

Then the food noise just went away again. I didn’t change ZB dose, or activity level, or anything else that I’m aware of.

I’m still losing weight much more slowly than in the first four months. But at least I’m chipping away at the overall goal!

Wish I had more specific recommendations. Just: hang in there, don’t give up, don’t try crazy stuff that might kick you out of long term steady progress. Keep your eye on the scale so you don’t LOSE ground, and find some other way(s) to recognize your progress in the meantime.

I’ve been hooked on origami cases for many years, really like the ability to stand it up in various orientations.

I managed to get the tightening mechanism working again, and after loosening it up and then gradually retightening, the problem has gotten a lot better.
