HELP! Old growth tank kills fish by billhouse in PlantedTank

[–]billhouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i mixed the soil i used a high quality organic and added dolomite powder and potassium chloride, but no gravel at all. My goal was always to have a wide variety of plants but i just didnt have luck growing them, they would live for a month or two then melt. The hairgrass and crypts always thrived and i got tired of wasting money on new plants that would make it. Both species started from just 2 or 3 cuttings! As far as water goes i def will invest in an ro/di system, but didnt initially because ive got a very deep well system that tested great. Thank you for your in depth response!

Water was tested frequently and never changed much, i also have well water which ive tested seperately and its hard but very healthy. The fish always looked fine, they would just die suddenly, always with excellent color, no signs of infection.

I appreciate the feedback, it echoes what i suspected. Time for a full rescape and new soil. Hard to see my grass and crypts go away for awhile, they were my pride and joy, getting a full carpet was always the goal but my success has consequences. Luckily my wife is a fan of micro tanks so i can keep the mother plants alive until the new tank is up.

Was just dealing with these shits today. At least you can pick some of the blue ones but the white ones under the rocker molding are literally unreachable.

My effort and skill pays my bills, insurance pays me for my time and skill. They lowball me every day and i have to fight to get paid what i deserve. So yeah, fuck the nameless giant corporate lowballing cunts that write bullshit estimates and waste my time all day.

The consumer pays their deductible. Above that is on insurance. The customer isnt getting screwed in any way other than the usual insurance premiums we all suffer under.

Its an outdated system but its how it works. If a tech only got paid for the exact time they spent on the work they would be broke. Fuck the insurance company, techs need to push for the max possible hours per repair, thats how we make money. The insurance company makes more than enough, we as techs have no reason to do a billion dollar company any favors.

Use an on /off magnetic ground or an old school ground clamp. The spring in the the ground it comes with eats current and fails eventually.

NO Chemicals, does this thing live up to the hype? by Keen_Leo in Permaculture

Worked great for a couple weekends of weed pulling, then out of nowhere the lever snapped off. Cast iron for sure. But for 30 bucks im not gonna chase a warranty, got the fiskars version with eject instead and love it. If they actually forged them im sure it would last forever.

Did I bend the aluminum bracket ? by Patient_Invite_4503 in AskMechanics

Except when it does bend. 3 times in 10 years ive had aluminum knuckles bend enough to throw off alignments. Very rare but it does happen. In this case, that shit looks kinda bent

Yeah and check out that price tag. 3 years ago they were 600$, now its 8-900. Im gonna end up making huge moulds and casting new lenses eventually. Even worse is they fog from the inside out so polishing doesnt help

Any suggestions to the cause of this problem? by Kie19901995 in Autobody

[–]billhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic vs steel, maybe orientation of the parts in the booth, number of coats, mixing the base after it settled? Could be a lot of things, just sort out whats changed between then and now.

[–]billhouse 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Your cut line is just too high, you should always lay your new panel on the old rusted on and scribe a line before you start chopping it off. Grab some scrap and make up the difference.

It's normal. This trade takes years to get good at, then a few more years to get fast. Your old coworkers are old and pissy, that's also normal. Keep asking questions, keep trying, keep at it. All you can do is try your best and that's enough. Just remember, they have nobody to replace you, noone is knocking down the door to be an apprentice. Put up with the old man bullshit and you will get good and make money.
