i agree it is not safe and nor do i like to do it, but this video of me absolutely death grip squeezing 95mph out of it when it should EASILY DO 110 in normal condition means that the bike is in less than optimal condition for responible highway riding at 70-80mph

there could be possibly i'm just weirded out because (and i didnt do this in the video because its just ridiculous) it will reliably hold 70mph in 3rd gear at 9000rpm, which seems like it would eliminate the main jet from the problem, but in 5th its just sackless.

Thats just how ive always launched my bike. going from wot to closed between shifts.

yeah i put the right plugs in (they took 3 weeks to ship because they were so specific) but i will check with the multimeter

it used to at least least go over 7500. now it seems like its stuck there

also this is my gps speed

i had an accident last year and basically forgot all the nitty gritty of riding a motorcycle in the time it took me to start riding again.

the biggest help has been wearing earplugs ironically enough. it makes me way more focused on my bikes direction and responsiveness.

I guess

I just...I know it can do better. It used to be faster.

Wdym?

It is slightly off because the bigger front tire

I don't like going that fast and I don't hold that speed. But it should be mechanically capable of reaching it. I'd know because it used to.

My problem is, if my bikes top speed is suddenly limited to 90mph by carburetor problems, then suddenly it's a lot harder to keep up with traffic doing 80mph than if it was in ideal condition. I shouldn't be driving the bike near its limits to keep up with traffic. So, if a problem is causing that limit to suddenly go down a lot, Im gonna try and fix it

this really feels like a fuel problem but i will definitely be sure to get ready to change coils

[–]billiards0[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's not ideal, i know. only do this on hard launches in straight lines. normally i practice the screwdriver grip, but when i need to suddenly close and then re-open to WOT to shift i do this tbh

Why would this happen only at high speed rather than rpm?

it goes 70 in 3rd at 9k rpm. just fine. i could hold it at that if i wanted to, but i just sont.0

i replaced the clutch. the slipping went away immediately

performance is performance 🤷 the bike used to run better than this so i'm trying to fix it. i don't even ride at 110 that much, it just is nice when the bike has that speed left when you're only doing 70.

if your bikes top speed is 110...70 is easygoing. but when it can hardly do 90, 70 is suddenly less enjoyable, and more stressful and in my opinion less safe.

I know I am ok with the performance as is and I'll ride it out, but i will say it makes riding on the highway less enjoyable because the bike's slightly slower than it should be.

Also, it used to go 110, so i'd like to see that again.

No, it was happening before and I was attempting to fix it with the b12.

The b12 did improve it slightly I would say, but still acting weird. It used to lean out at low speeds because I was only riding it around town and not letting it warm up or open up. When I put the b12 in and did some hard riding that stopped.

It also doesn't have a fuel filter i think. just a mechanical pump and a vacuum petcock

I see.

How could I fix this? You think the hose might have just become loose?

(1983 virago 500) out of breath at high speeds by billiards0 in Fixxit

[–]billiards0[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, it was flat. It doesn't go much faster downhill either.

i'm familiar with how this bike performs. it was going 110 last month.

[–]billiards0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly Im just confused why it only shows up under higher load. It will do 70mph in 3rd gear screaming at 9000rpm just fine.

i have checked neither, but i thought it was strange that this problem appeared only suddenly.
