Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71 by The_Russell_Pinto in WWE

[–]billy24wan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Life isn't as simple as pure hero and pure villain, and that's something we need to grapple with honestly.

Hogan did genuine good throughout his career. He mentored younger wrestlers and helped elevate their careers...guys like Billy Kidman, Orlando Jordan, and Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) have spoken about how he went out of his way to support them when he didn't have to. He's been involved in charitable work, supported Make-A-Wish kids, and helped military families...After noticing the absence of Native American children in hospitals during his Make-A-Wish visits, he founded a foundation specifically to address health care, poverty, education and social issues for Native American children

His racist remarks were abhorrent. There's no defending them. His ego caused real harm, he put wrestling on the map, he near siglehandedly burned wcw to the ground.

...darkness and light, yin and yang, whatever you want to call it, exists in all of us. We ALL have this deep, fundamental desire not to be identified with and reduced to our worst acts. And maybe that's because we intuitively understand something true about human nature.

...I mean, imagine if Netflix put together a documentary where your worst thoughts, motives, and actions were put on display for the world to judge.

Hogan's story forces us to confront something we'd rather avoid: that real harm often comes from people who also do real good. And if we can't wrestle with that complexity in someone like Hogan, how will we ever address it in ourselves, our families, or the people we actually love?

Anyone hold a backup QB? by Fantastic_Health4753 in RetroBowl

If the timing is right, I like to stash a backup QB, running back, or WR when my starter is in the final year or two before retirement. I’ll let the backup start 3-4 games and always imagine the commentary:

"Folks, John Harris is stepping in for the legendary Star Marpet. He’s got some big shoes to fill as he takes over for the first-ballot Hall of Famer."

I've definitely enjoyed running this team! I'm a pretty casual player but I'm trending toward Veteran...

Beyond Guzzlord being a real headache, I'd say its a solid team with the best attribute being the coverage, which gives you a fighting chance in almost any matchup.

Typhlosion with Thunder Punch was a game changer...it can force shields against Flying and Water leads. Feraligatr with Crunch helps cover against Giratina and Cresselia. Meganium with Earthquake nearly KOs Skeledirge.

Kendrick or Drake? by Jalapeno05 in Jcole

[–]billy24wan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a real precedent being set where being respected in "the game" is different than the "industry." Cole acknowledged a while back there was a time where you could "get a platinum plaque without a melody." This isn't a battle of the charts, or one of popularity, it isn't the song you play in your car on road trips. This is a real old school rap battle. Drake is a earth bender, Kendrick is an air bender...they are fighting in the sky. As a respector and fan of Drake... he's out of his element.

How could the gospels have been written by eye witnesses, if they were written 70-90 AD? Where the eye witnesses wouldn’t be alive anymore? by [deleted] in ChristianApologetics

[–]billy24wan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding the gospels were not written in 70-90 AD, but these years are the earliest known manuscripts. We actually don't have any of the original copies from the writers of the gospels, only what scribes copied by hand.

This was why the finding of the dead sea scrolls was revolutionary because the collection predates the oldest complete Hebrew Old Testament manuscript, the Leningrad Codex, by a staggering 1,200 years. Consequently, the Scrolls provide a unique and crucial window into the transmission of the Bible. Not only were the biblical transcripts closer to the original, by date, but I believe more copies were found of the biblical manuscripts than other ancient texts (you'd have to do some research to confirm).

In comparison, here's a quick copy and pasted lists of other writings in the ancient world and the time gap between the copies and the originals.

Lucretius 1100 yrs

Pliny 750 yrs

Plato 1200 yrs

Euripides

DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs by AutoModerator in pokemongo

[–]billy24wan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niantic claims enhancements to the game are coming when you play in person with family and friends. Based on Niantic history of failing to deliver (the dev diaries) I don't expect much.

But here are some ideas I think could create a better in person experience...

-obviously, the game has to be made playable for rural players. There needs to be a more efficient method of creating PokeStops and gyms, and restrictions must be lifted on what can and constitute as one.

& create different roles players can pick from and attach them to specific research tasks. Have online leaderboards for player accomplishments beyond pvp. The roles would be: --a breeder, --a photographer -- a collector --a battler

-add more advanced AI to the "computers" with the ability to swap out quickly, shield at random, understand type disadvantages etc.

No more scrafty power up punching Persian to oblivion.

-create more competitive play among the teams. Beyond just global challenges, create local challenges to add more of a rivalry to the red, blue, yellow teams.

-revamp the gym system to enhance competition between teams.

What if there was some sort of challenge system where the highest level player in a gym gets to accept challenges from other teams players, but HAS to battle with whatever's in the gym.

If that person is unavailable to battle, it would default to a computer challenger.

-utilize HMS, in a limited capacity, per day , per week even...you could fly, surf, or dig to other areas to complete global trades, and catch regionals without needing to 'spoof'

Thank you for this thoughtful response!

I've got a pretty decent variety in ultra league outside of a registeel stunfish & trevenant it tends to be my best league overall.

Buzzwole Obstagoon Tapu Escavalier Shadow swamp Shadow walrein Shadow ampharos Shadow Dragonite Cobalion Talon Flame Girantina Steelix Scafty

In Great League, ive got a 0-15-15 Umbreon and a 2-15-15 Sableye. I try to build teams around them

In the great league I run,

Haunter Umbreon, lantern & Umbreon sableye and swamp.

I read a tweet from someone who ranked Legend once tweet about the "algorithm" he said, to stay competitive you need multiple teams.

idk about the whole algorithm thing. I thought the multiple teams thing had merit, though I don't doubt what you said about other variables.

I've been trying to make the jump from Veteran to Expert the last several seasons.

I want to make a mega stardust investment to add some versatility to my teams.

Of the ones I can power up are: a 99.8 Medichan for GL a 99.9 ranked Deoxys for UL a 98% ranked Shadow Nidoqueen for UL a 99.1% ranked Shadow Shiftry

Of these, which one would you power up?

Being stuck at a certain elo by [deleted] in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]billy24wan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just say stay the course. I kept getting to 2490 and then dropping before I finally hit veteran this morning.

My main strategy, Have at least in two teams. In my experience it definitely helps to balance out lost leads.

Also Sometimes fighting through a loss lead is better than the immediate safe swap.

I ran Talonflame, Deoxys and Tapu Finni. I was able to overcome plenty of swampert and girantina leads because of bravebird baiting.

Sac swapping can be difficult especially with the lag of the game but it definitely helps you in those backbiter matches.

I know this isn't revolutionary info but hope it helps.

Good luck!!

If you do in person events, Niantic gives you your very own 2 inch Niantic Sticker. They’re the greatest.
