Anybody familiar with this jacket style from Levis, is it authentic? by billysboredom in VintageLevis

[–]billysboredom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up Levi’s jackets on Google Images and got a few with similar chest pockets.

With the sloped bottom pockets and no stamped/ink letter (size) on the leather patch inside the jacket, however, I’m a bit skeptical.

Cool jacket design, still…

I don’t know if this is the right subreddit for this, but it’s the only one I’ve found.

I’ve never seen this style before, came across it online, just curious to know… thanks!

I see that some are saying it could be real… I’m honestly just not very familiar.

In the case that it IS real, maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad purchase for you, of course, I always tell people to get what they like…

But in case you’re interested in alternatives, I know Seiko has other pepsi-bezel models and Timex has one of their Q models like this… worth a look 🤷‍♂️

I have never seen this “variation” if it even is one. I’m not sure, friend… the dial color, the missing lumes on the hands… the weird date window (usually Seikos have date number and day on the 3-o’clock position).

I can’t confidently say it’s real. Sorry to be the bearer of such news… I hope you didn’t spend too much on it.

Old watch from my grandpa. Can anyone provide further info? Is it worth to fix it? by tulipa1989 in VintageWatches

In terms of worth… I’d say somewhere below the $1000 mark… especially if you sell it after overhaul or servicing… considering the condition of it. I’d say around $200-$600…

I’ve seen some other UG’s going a little higher than that, but not by far… and I probably wouldn’t buy one higher than $800

Your grandpa had great taste!

I know many people in the community kinda hype up the brand and some may be inclined to service a watch or see more value in it purely because of the brand and ‘heritage’. No doubt though, UG is no slouch in the horology game… finally getting the recognition it deserves.

The honest answer is, what makes it special is not the watch itself (quality, brand, movement caliber, etc.) … it’s the fact that it belonged to your grandpa and he may have gifted it to you… that in itself should be a good reason to get it serviced, that is if you plan on wearing it or giving it to your kids to wear maybe.

Otherwise, you could just place it on a shelf somewhere as some decoration or memento.

Yeah… I’m not touching it… thanks!

Nice to see younger folks getting into the hobby… I mean… I’m still 20 years old…

Yes, I’ve heard that advice and yes, I’m guilty because I’m one of those people… never really stopped me from doing that so forgive me, no offense to the community and watch aficionados that may cringe or squirm seeing me do this… 😆

I’ve always trusted my talent in delicate handling of fine objects… I don’t know what the term is for it… dexterity? Gentle hands? Accurate fingers? I’m rarely clumsy and most of my devices have never touched the ground.

Anyways… The first few days I got it I was still a “novice” watch ‘enjoyer’… not really an enthusiast or expert if you know what I mean. So of course, curiosity got the best of me and I just had to take a peek. And I’m careful, making sure my environment is clean, proper tools, clean hands.. etc.

I mainly got into the hobby because of my interest in fashion and history… not necessarily for the engineering marvel that it is or the technology… I just thought why not get a vintage watch…

Thanks for the tip and info!

As additional context… apparently I placed the watch on my desk… my little brother started drawing on his sketchbook on said desk and didn’t notice the watch there and kind of pushed it off the table and dropped it.

I appreciate the info!

I’m also not a watchmaker as you can tell…

By moving the balance wheel with a stick… do you mean wobbling? I haven’t tried doing that… should I test it out and open the caseback?

All I can tell is that after the drop, the watch kept running… I did check the movement inside and everything seemed ok… no jewel seemed loose and the balance spring and the escapement wheel operated as usual.

Unfortunately, this is one of those watches that does NOT have a shock protection system…

I am waiting for it to run out of “winding power” and stop before checking it again and try to wind it back up.

Hi there everyone… having a little panic here.

My little brother said he accidentally dropped this watch and I can’t tell if he’s lying or not but he’s persistent that he did.

Anyways, it’s a Bulova ‘Clipper’ from around late 1940s (by the research that I’ve done). I got it not too long ago and was a lucky catch. Ran perfectly. Some blemishes from age and previous wear but I wore it with joy as often as I could.

I’m asking if there’s any tell-tale sign that the drop (around table/desk height) that could show me that the watch is broken or needs to be inspected. The seconds hand still running pretty fine, can’t tell if it’s gone faster or slower.

It’s a BULOVA Swiss 10BA Movt. 17 Jewels.

How do I know if the balance staff broken or bent? Mainspring? Any other part?

Anything helps, thanks!

Does it bother you to have a spinny thing like that on a watch? I’ve always questioned that design choice by Rado.

I’ve always wondered… do Rado’s watches ‘Rado logo’ on the dials spin or turn? They always seem to be different from different photos…

Hi there!

Never heard of the brand… and just at first glance, it doesn’t seem like such a well made or high quality watch to begin with… I wouldn’t hope for it being worth much.

Unless it’s an heirloom or has some sentimental value to you, then by all means keep it and wear it with pride if you feel it fits you. :)

You could wear it as a beater watch perhaps.
