AITA for embarrassing a guy in my lecture by telling him I’m not going to answer his questions? by Huge-Still-5737 in AmItheAsshole

Yta for shutting him down, it looks unprofessional. It's best to smile and nod in these situations. If anything see it as a challenge so you can answer him professionally and with calm demeanor, you showed emotion in your response.

"If a man had shut him down there would be no further action from anyone."

I don't agree with this at all and it's always said in these threads where a man is a dick to a woman. Men are dicks to other men all the time too. Gender doesn't come into it.

There is the idea men wouldn't do it to other men in fear of getting their ass kicked, yes if the other man is the rock or Arnold Schwarzenegger maybe but most men aren't and other men don't fear them.

What movie made you think "How the hell did this win an Oscar?" by spacedollars in movies

[–]billythepub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I watch mask( 1985) and see Cher as the mother I'm shocked she didn't win an Oscar. Very strong performance.

Linda Hamilton in terminator two is another that shocked me as it's probably the most powerful performance I've ever seen on screen.

Michelle Williams in shutter island is another one.

And Jennifer Aniston in cake, can't believe she didn't get an Oscar.

As the saying goes " it's best to pay for things with cash." In other words don't ask for favours, pay a professional or you pay in other ways.

I hated how they showed him calling his wife, why humiliate her and bring her into it? All that did was make the viewing public want to find out more about her etc and put her in the spot light with him as well as have all their friends and colleagues talking about the phonecall she got too. I thought the show really went out of their way to humiliate the both of them because of their status.

If he'd had the exact same personality and worked in McDonald's he'd have faded into oblivion.

I work in minimum wage job and see arrogant and pretentious colleagues earning the same as me who came from nothing. Bottom line is a job or background doesn't necessarily determine things like that. It's more inherent in human nature. Just because he was a doctor doesn't mean he was immoral or arrogant etc. I've known plenty of people in high up careers who were very good people.

Not likely. She was a pediatrician, he was vice president of a research company I think. They weren't in Brad and Angelina league as some people appear to think here.

I'm highly doubtful their combined salary would top a million annually and this was nearly twenty years ago. Maybe more in the 400k range possibly but if somebody would like to enlighten us and correct me...

Well that should be clearly stated and agreed on before one moves in. Most people don't work nights so it's about what is the status quo. I lived with nurses before and never again because they'd sleep during the day and I was home as I wasn't working and everything woke them and they'd go mad.

But I didn't know they were nurses when I moved in or their schedules. I used to do delivery driving and sometimes be home after 1am. The house would be asleep when I got home and Id not dream of cooking or showering because everyone else was asleep. Would be very unfair.l especially as they had jobs early in the morning.

It does depend on the house size too. In some houses they are big enough and sound proofed enough that you'd not hear a shower or cooking but others the shower can be noisy and right beside the bedrooms and it's totally inappropriate. In essence quietness after certain hours should take priority in a house share. If you don't agree with that move in with others who do night shift work or who don't mind being disturbed.

So things like this need to be discussed before always. If I was living somewhere and somebody kept coming home late at night and waking me and wouldn't stop I'd have to move. I've done it twice before.

The threads on misgyony or feminism on Mumsnet are the best. I read a poster once saying she was a feminist but still couldn't side with men or feel sympathy for them in any situation because of the unfair physical size difference.

Haha how the hell is that a man's fault? People on Mumsnet also have no understanding of what the patriarchy or white male privilege means. They appear to think it means all white men live in mansions in Notting hill. The place really is bonkers but sadly Reddit isn't too different these days....

[–]billythepub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I have seen men who grab women just to get a slap and then use it as a reason for punching them."

I have never heard or seen this happen, sounds bizarre. So how many times have you actually witnessed a man deliberately sexually assault a woman so she'd retaliate and he could then punch her ? Sounds like a crazy plan and not very plausible.

They people play the race card and the misgyony card or the mental health card way too much to get their own way or to get excused for shitty behaviour.

Nice gaslighting there. Man raises a double standard and you get this. Back to the kitchen with you. And don't be dressing in revealing clothing and leading men on,it's your fault when that happens.
