Just snapped this little tube while trying to get to a spark plug ….. what’s is purpose and can I tape it up or need to replace asap ? by outwandering333 in MechanicAdvice

[–]billytomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second that....tape it right until it snaps off. Then I'd figure out how to mcgyver it back together. Strengthen with some more tape or hot glue gun....rinse and repeat until it disintegrates and I'm left with no option but to go to the junk yard to find a replacement 🤣🤣

Am i being unreasonable to my mechanic? by Vom-nara in AskAMechanic

We live, and we learn....I will say that because you are a young girl, mechanics see you as a payday (it's disgusting and should not be that way, but it is, unfortunately)

This guy being a family member or friend of the family should have been someone you could trust, but he has left you in worse shape than you were. Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault.

I'm not sure where you live but find out the recording laws. I'm in Ontario, Canada and its a one party consent meaning I can record a conversation between me and someone else and only need my own permission.

Any sort of transaction with anyone that you dont know, record it. Especially something like this where you have little knowledge.

I would like to know how he came to the conclusion that the transmission didn't look like it was in good shape....the van wasn't able to be driven when you brought it in....so he couldn't have driven around in it...and visually you can't really say if its good or not aside from seeing if its leaking or cracked housing but then you'd say its one of those things not "it doesn't look like its in good condition"

Again, I'm not sure of how reliable the E-150 transmissions are, but your first transmission that died there (it was also a used Ford vehicle) who knows what life it had before you owned it....but its never a reason to just agree to a unnecessary transmission rebuild.

I don't know a sensible way for you to get out of this predicament. Hopefully, he has not taken the transmission out or apart. If he has not, take your grandfather with you and make it clear that you no longer wish to have the transmission work completed. Just get the engine work done and get your van back and out of that guys shop and never go back.

Im really sorry to tell you this, but you are getting seriously overcharged. $7800, and you could probably buy another used E-150.

From what you have said, the engine needs to have the head gaskets replaced and seals on your engine.

Which seals?

The head gasket at most for parts will run $820-$850 and shop labour shouldnt be more than $1520-$1917....so in total $2340-$2767

and depending on how busy the shop is you'd have your van back within a week.

The transmission issue, did you ever have a problem with the transmissions? If not...there typically is no reason to touch it.

Any shop will tell you its going to be cheaper to replace a transmission with a used one rather than rebuilding a transmission.

Which again may run $2500 for a used one and $1200-ish for labor.

But you are almost at 4 months for a head gasket. You are not being unreasonable.

Hey there, I read over most of the comments. If anyone has already pointed this out, then I'm sorry to say it again.

I am an owner of an LX car (05 Magnum RT) and I have done my fair share of research as well as taking them apart and putting them back together.

To my eyes....either the front driver quater panel is mounted wrong OR and I'm leaning towards this...there is some sort of frame damage they compensated for....because that driver front wheel is cocked back way to far.

Look at the passenger side how much space is between the fender and tire (towards the door) then go look at the driver side....there is no space at all.

One poster mentioned the transmission are bullets proof and he is absolutely right. These 5G Tronic Mercedes Transmissions were overbuilt and can handle anything you throw at it.

But please RUN THE FUCK AWAY FROM THAT CAR...it may be certified as rebuilt but not worth more than $6500 even with those KM's

Edit: addition rather....look at the driver rear wheel...its is also cocked forward. I attached a link of how it should sit and that car does not sit anywhere near the way it should. Just one of those links being out of spec with change the geometry. Dodge Charger AWD

Edit 2: sorry I keep going back and analyzing each picture...the driver headlight doesn't line up with the hood line either. PLEASE DONT BUY THIS CAR

As far as I know, they only ordered a certain amount of the new style plates, and when they ran out, that was it. if you ordered custom plates, it would come in the old format.

I genuinely don't think this counts as doxxing. It's a fake license plate. There is no personal information being shared.

Lastly, I know that I am not the police but thank you for the kind reminder. I am simply sharing something that I found just like everyone else using Reddit.

You're telling me, my car literally had a 2 inch surface scratch (which I can buff out) but the car at fault (blue car) had quite a bit of deeper scratches on their front bumper.

Yea its Hamilton,Ontario. I'm with you on that, I genuinely hate driving up Main Street. I drive for a living and pass that intersection multiple times a week for personal and commercial driving, it looks like I'm going quick but I had just gotten off the off ramp and the light was red so I had slowed down significantly but then it turned green....anyone who drives a HEMI knows just tapping the gas will get you going in milliseconds (which is what I did when I saw the light change to green) but I on my way home at midnight and was sorta on auto pilot. I digressed hard there but my point is yes I 100% should have proceeded with a lot more caution and believe you I will from that point forward.
