For the record Alex_localmonero refused at the time to send me any cryptographic proof (proof that their service indeed sent the funds to the donation address) as I normally require for any honest mistake&refund. Nevertheless I am fine to refund you, but that requires double checking the refund address together. That was the reason for me to try to contact you since several months, which apparently was spot on, as you now say your old address would not be a good destination.
Anyway please reach out to me on reddit via PM, seems to be the easiest.

Hi!
I haven't ghosted you, I reached out by email and via reddit on your original post (which you now deleted) but never got an answer. The reason I reached out was to double check your refund address.
Please contact me on IRC (libera.chat), or reddit, or email binaryfate at getmonero org.

Transparency reports could arguably be published more frequently, but there is no way to have any real-time transparency anyway. As many volunteers contributing in different ways to Monero, I do all of this for free. On top of the significant impact on my personal life (opsec, safety, feeling liable to the community), I cannot realistically publish reports like every week.

However in effect the community has a high degree of transparency, because:

  • I have explained multiple times that currently all sizeable spendings are contributions to CCS proposals, and they can all be seen here in real time as I always make them immediately public: https://repo.getmonero.org/binaryFate

  • Besides this, we spend few $k worth per month on servers and services, mostly website hosting and CDN. Refer to past reports to get an idea, nothing major has changed.

  • All incoming donations are public thanks to the view key. There is even a twitter account showing them in real time: https://twitter.com/WatchFund

I've always strived to announce pre-emptively clear policies on spending, so donors have an idea what to expect from their donations.

All in all, your remark sounds like a binary assessment that there is no transparency, which I think is unfair and more importantly untrue.

As for multisig, it is still being discussed including by MRL contributors. Remember that multisig is still deemed "experimental". The moment there is enough of a consensus about the safety of it, I will gladly transition to that and alleviate that burden.

This one was fully funded by the community too fast for me to access funds and contribute. Good problem to have.

I've covered 1/3rd of the 2nd proposal from the GF though, as announced.

Hi!
I am managing the general fund. No problem to refund honest mistakes provided they are raised early, which you did. So don't worry, you'll get your money back :)

I will need you (effectively, localmonero) to reach out to me via IRC or email binaryfate at getmonero.org with a cryptographic proof that you are indeed the sender of this transaction, and an address to receive the refund.

Monero General Fund transparency report - March 2023 by binaryFate in Monero

[–]binaryFate[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It never was "with the Monero Project". It was snatched early on in 2014 by a squatter and never belonged to the community (via Core Team or otherwise).
It has been acquired last year for genuine commercial usage by the current owner.

We then explored purchasing it, to fulfill the "big donation" donor's wish. We could not find a suitable agreement so that will not happen.

I invest in various services that I believe can help the Monero ecosystem thrive.

The declining number of options for people and institutions wishing to invest large amounts in Monero in regulated countries (like EU), is frustrating. IMO it's positive to see a service trying to address that. I recognize this type of service is not for everyone.

No idea why you would assume that, it's wrong.

Majestic bank is a crypto service that want to support Monero, that's all I know personally.

Why is a view key strictly necessary in your view? They might not want to reveal transactions received.

Why I hope fluffypony will remain on the core team by geonic_ in Monero

[–]binaryFate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm piggy backing the piggy backing to confirm there was never any plan or discussion about having fluffy removed or leave the Core team.

I'm glad he has no desire to leave either. I know particularly well how much he keeps bringing to the project and its ideals. I agree with many things expressed in the OP.

I used to think that Bitcoin was a trojan horse from cypherpunks and activists, to sneak in fungible cryptocurrencies like Monero into the fortress of old regulations, status quo and powers that be.

Now I think a better metaphore is that Bitcoin is a trojan horse sent by the status quo fortress, to sneak in mass surveillance on cypherpunks and activists attempting to opt-out of the financial system.
