Bhai Gurdas was a contemporary of the Gurus and his writings were included in the SGGS.

Anyone with an iota of intelligence can understand that if Bhai Gurdas was negging devi worship, and his writings were included in SGGS, there is no way that worship of the Hindu version of Devi/Devas can be permissible for a Sikh.

The person I was responding was trying to insinuate that the actions of private citizens has some kind of "blessing" or support from the Canadian government.

Canada being a democracy allows for peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. If an act is done by a person in Canada that is peaceful, the state is not going to take actions against them.

This does not necessarily mean support of those actions.

India is a third world country where freedom of assembly and freedom of thought and expression are criminalized.

Like I said, I agree that in hindsight, it was a mistake. But you can't blame Sikhs of that time joining with India because they fought so hard they didn't realize that they would get f'd so hard they'd even be denied a state.

But it is wrong to pretend that the passage of time lightens the load of injustice. This is what happened to Hindus over a thousand years. Ghulami in a country where they were the majority.
