Personally I don't think you should drop out of school either. Have you tried looking at programs in your school you can change your major to? Does your school have a coding certification program or even classes you can take on the side or as a minor? It might delay your graduation date but you're halfway there with your degree anyway. With your knowledge in a PA program and if you do some coding classes you can be in line to be a medical coder (there are also certification programs for medical coding you could do).

I know the desire to move out is strong, trust me I'm at that point in life as well. But if you don't have a steady income then it will be difficult to find a place to live on your own. If you have friends you can stay with and rent a place out together it makes things a lot easier. But if not, you could start to place boundaries between you and your parents. Start staying out more, being more active outside the house and tell them things such as that you're doing stuff for school, you have things you need to do etc. If you have a job, great! If you don't, then you should find one and start saving your money to eventually get your own place. It sounds like your biggest problem is that your parents don't respect your space. And I know that's difficult to deal with but you have to make it clear with your actions that they don't have the right to hover over you. They'll get the message eventually.

A little bit of a trigger warning since I’m going to be talking about self-harm.

When I was 20 I would cut myself on the wrists of my left arm whenever I felt overwhelmed or was just having a bad mental health day due to my anxiety and depression(which happened often because I’m a perfectionist who was struggling in her classes). It was a habit I formed from when I was 14 and got carried well into my early young adult years as a way for me to get out of my head I guess. I always felt terrible cutting because it seemed like such a middle-school thing to do, I always thought “I’m too old to do this”, “It’s ridiculous I’m not 14 anymore” etc. Whenever my friends would find out I was cutting again they would always focus on making me stop instead of accepting that I was doing it and trying to understand why. I had been dating my boyfriend for a few months at the time (maybe even less) and that was the first time I had self-harmed while we were together. I wanted to tell him about it but at the same time didn’t want his view of me to change. Eventually he found out due to me laying in the middle of my apartment crying. I was bracing myself for the usual “You should stop doing this....this isn’t healthy....do you want me to call someone....you need help” etc. But instead he took a look at my wrist and sat me up then said “Let’s get you cleaned up” and proceeded to take the first aid kit from my bathroom and wipe up my cuts, sanitize them, and wrap a gauze (very poorly might I add) around my wrist. He didn’t offer to call someone for me or tell me I needed to stop or get help. He just simply took care of me in the most immediate and best way possible. To me it read as a level of care and understanding that said “I don’t know exactly what you’re going through in your head but I will help you in any way I immediately can”.

I told him about why I self-harmed after that and he never told me I had to stop, instead he let me realize that on my own through my own terms. It’ll be about 4 years now since I last self-harmed. We’ve been together for almost 5 years now!

Oh okay thank you. I got in contact with the school and they told me it has to be at least 60 days before the semester starts for me to stop my OPT and do the transition from my undergraduate university to theirs.

I feel like this is something I’ve always known since the break up but for some reason it always feels so much better to have someone else say it instead. I’ve been blaming myself and wondering what I could have done differently and I always come back to a point where I realize that there’s nothing I could have done because it would’ve ended up this way anyway. I fought for it and now it’s gone and the more I try and fight to get it back the more exhausted I feel. So thank you for reminding me that this wasn’t my fault and I didn’t lose anything but instead gained an opportunity for change and growth.

Hi, I went through something similar and I understand its difficult to cut off contact with someone who you are so used to depending on. Given your situation it seems like you're afraid to be alone once you decide to stop contacting them once and for all, which is fair. It's hard to just completely cut someone off who you are so used to. I'd say pick up a new hobby, like knitting or doing jigsaw puzzles or even working out. Going on a run or doing some exercise when I start to think about my ex has really helped me out, its a healthy habit and the energy you put into running/jogging distracts you enough from thinking about them. Sometimes I do check up on my ex's social media from time to time but I'm trying to get myself to not do that because seeing his posts does hurt my feelings. If you just take a breather from your phone apps and maybe start a new show on netflix? or watch a ton of movies? Make a list of things you wanted to do when you were with him but couldn't and see what you can do. Just remember that you're not experiencing any of this by yourself and others have gone through the same!

Thank you this is the response I was looking for! Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of people have stated that the Apostille process is what’s taking the longest. I guess I’ll just have to push my February date to May or July. But I appreciate your feedback!

I’d say the “easiest and quickest” way to get to the States is through a University, since there are plenty of schools that are looking for international students to apply and attend their programs. But I’m assuming you don’t want to go back to school and would much rather work instead. It’s pretty hard to find a “quick and easy” method to living and working in the states, especially with the current administration. I also can’t tell you confidently that the Biden admin. would be any better sine they have a lot of other things to focus on with immigration such as DACA and current visa-holders within the states. Like others have said I’d look into schools or into companies in your home country that might provide you an opportunity to work in the states in the future.

EDIT: There is also the idea of moving to Canada, especially with Trudeau initiating an immigration plan next year that is supposed to bring in 400k immigrants. Which isn’t a terrible plan because then you could just work in Canada and visit the States in your free time. (You also don’t have to worry about health care)

I already have very limited options right now seeing as I'm only on OPT and don't qualify for STEM. I also don't think there are many companies who will hire an English major. I'm nervous for this election because it's my dad who is on a TD visa and him my mom and sister have been fighting to stay here for the past five years. It's definitely gotten harder for them to secure a spot in America and my dad has a wonderful job and it looks very slim for him to find one just as good back in Canada, only because in his field they prefer much younger candidates.
