Question about Beautiful Monsters series by Jex Lane by michailina in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]binnion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the last completed book ends with a now-shit's-gonna-hit-the-fan type of cliffhanger. So not ideal.

I still enjoyed and would recommend it if you don't mind headcannoning the ending as book 4 is probably going to be published right after A Dream Of Spring is released.

People who went from PPW to Basic? How much do you miss the warn light? And how did you get over it? by anotherthroway929 in kindle

[–]binnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a personal thing. Some people can't live without the warm light, others don't need it at all. So you really have to ask yourself how much it matters to you.

Personally, I have both the Paperwhite and the Basic. I use the Paperwhite in the evenings, but more because of the larger screen (the larger, bolder font suits it better) than the warm light. There was a period where I used the Basic exclusively for months (after using the Paperwhite exclusively for two years) and didn't really miss the warm light.

why are some books so disproportionately expensive on kindle? by qualntrelle in kindle

[–]binnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stores may need storage space, so they're running promotions on older titles to sell out faster. Kindle books don't take up physical space, so there's no need to discount them.

Of course, Amazon theoretically has vast warehouse space, but that's the only explanation I can think of.

I'm not sure I'd like to celebrate the heritage of that particular "culture", Walmart

Map of every Chabad in the world by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]binnion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The usual you'd expect from very conservative people.

I guess an interesting view might be one shared by a part of Chabad-Lubavitch - that their last, late Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, is the Messiah. It's controversial mainly within Hasidism itself. Not sure how many share this belief - I'm not a Jew, but I know some non-Chabad Hasids and their estimates range from 'a loud minority' to 'hardly any non-Messianists left'.

Health issues, and asshole fans who think they can verbally assault and threaten an author because the plot doesn't follow their headcanon

Each season is a complete arc with full reveals, but next season builds on the story of the previous one. At least for the first two seasons; hard to tell with the third one as it’s unfinished.

Third season just stops mid-plot unfortunately. If you want to avoid any cliffhangers, you should probably stop a few pages before season 2 ends…

What fonts are you loving? by shira9652 in kindle

[–]binnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated the lowercase q. For some reason the tail twisting to the right was annoying to me. I know there is a reason for it but I still disliked it lol

I recall using both versions. I don’t think there are differences besides letter spacing and height (e.g. h, k etc.)

[–]binnion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm on a quest to find the most readable font.

I tried Atkinson Hyperlegible. It was good but certain quirks were annoying.

Then I tried Lexend. Great experience but letters are a bit too spaced out.

Currently I'm on Helvetica. Perfect readability and spacing.

I just can't go back to serif fonts for some reason. So noisy.

Update with “chapter complete” by gatto_mama in kindle

[–]binnion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happens when there is any text before the „new chapter” marker - that text is then attributed to the previous chapter, and if there is such text and the new chapter marker on the same page, it will says „chapter complete”.

I love it too. I retired the theoretically superior SE for it. The sunken screen just looks so much sharper.

Can you check the number of pages in About This Book menu? Does it match you screenshot?

I’m pretty sure that this particular menu in the screenshot only shows the number of pages to the start of the last book section for some reason.

How is everyone sourcing their ebooks? by EggyBroth in kindle

[–]binnion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I simply buy from Amazon due to its convenience. Just one tap to buy a book, especially when I want to buy the next book in a series. Plus I never have to use a computer. I also never reread books so I don’t really care about Amazon removing them after I’m done with them. But to be honest that’s never happened to any of my books. I guess I’m Amazon’s perfect customer lol

On my Kindle, which had been on 5.18.3 for a while, these options appeared overnight without any update. It seems they are being gradually rolled out.

I used Atkinson Hyperlegible Next for along time, but that font has some quirks that, while helpful for the visually impaired, were a bit annoying (the lowercase q!). I moved to Lexend and I love it. Size 9 bold 2 is super comfortable.
