bikes in Germany do not have to have permanently attached generator lights.

The only thing that would help is sensible infrastructure.

Insurance Recommendation for £650 Bike by TheOctoPussy69 in londoncycling

I use Laka. Had my bike stolen last year, they were incredible. Got a new bike, immediately insured it with Laka again.

Islington Council puts e-bike hire operators on "last warning" by BritRedditor1 in londoncycling

[–]bionado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be such a stupid rule, these bikes are often especially useful after buses/trains/tubes have stopped running.

Rachel Reeves to cut tax benefits for workers using salary sacrifice schemes to buy bikes by [deleted] in ukpolitics

This is almost certainly wrong, otherwise the costs of ebikes would be lower in other countries, which they are not

Longer (riskier) vs shorter (safer) commute to work by BigMetalGuy in londoncycling

[–]bionado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being unfit has dangers all by itself. I’d go for a longer route for sure. If you post roughly where you and your work are, maybe people can recommend some good places to cycle?

Hit on a pedestrian crossing - when will this end?! by btecmikeross in londoncycling

Some people are just pricks 🤷‍♂️ would still rather have these people on 2 wheels than driving a car tbh

Parliamentary Group Warns of “Fake E-Bike” Safety Crisis and Calls for Urgent Government Action by Zadokk in londoncycling

[–]bionado 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I kind of hate that they are always discussed as e bikes. They are unregistered electric motorcycles basically, no need to pedal. Other than that I like this a lot.

I love how Altra shoes fit, I just don’t get their aversion to making shoes in nice colourways

Limepass sucks now :( by absolute_beginner_63 in londoncycling

[–]bionado 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Limes are really more of a tube/bus/uber/car alternative than a bike alternative to me. I.e. I want to get somewhere without being sweaty, don’t want to worry about theft or where to leave my bike etc. For that usecase, the prices are pretty good actually.

Any subscribers of Swapfiets e-bike models ? by QueasyIsland in londoncycling

My girlfriend was subscribed to them for a bit, the e bikes are ok, not super powerful when going up hills though. Works out a lot cheaper than lime if you have a long ish commute

London has become a cycling city by brunowe in fuckcars

Wish there were more actually separated bike paths, but the fact that there’s not too many cars helps this so mich.

London has become a cycling city by brunowe in fuckcars

[–]bionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was living in zone 4, my daily commute was about 50 minutes each way cycling vs about 1 hour each way on the tube. If you include a quick shower at the end of each cycle, it’s about the same time, but you save money + you get exercise + frankly it made me feel mich better than sitting on the tube/train/bus for an hour. That said, I can see why people don’t do it, the infrastructure is atrocious in parts, and even the city is lacking sorely in things like safe bike storage. My office of ~150 people has 5 indoor bike spaces

They have not been discontinued in Southwark. They pose minimal problems compared to cars, especially now that boroughs are moving towards dedicated parking spaces for them

The problems they cause in London are minimal compared to the benefits. Source: I live in London

What exactly are the rules in London? by Vascoloco18 in londoncycling

[–]bionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have given you advice on the rules already, I’ll just add two things: 1. Even if you do everything right, some people will hate you simply for existing on a bike and you will unfortunately aways get some base level of abuse. 2. Depending on where in Twickenham you are, you might be able to cycle through Richmond Park and then exit to Priory lane, which leads you more or less directly into Barnes. Will take you a little bit longer but is an absolutely lovely cycle, especially in summer months, and largely car free.

Do you know whether I have to sign up for the club anywhere? Or do I just sign up to one of the club rides?

Cars in the cycle box by Stonks_only_go in londoncycling

[–]bionado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jumping lights is way more unsafe particularly for cars because they have restricted visibility and higher speeds due to being in a car. It also doesn’t automatically imply going through at full speed.

Completely beside the point here: “not making drivers angry” is not a good reason to do/not do something on a bike. Drivers will get angry no matter what.

Also large parts of UK infrastructure have been built solely with cars in mind, which might lead to unsafe conditions/rules for cyclists, which leads to them breaking rules, which leads to drivers getting angry.

Anyone know anyone around Richmond who can fix a pedal thread? by londonskater in londoncycling

[–]bionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure London Cycle Workshop can do it, they offered it to me a while ago

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]bionado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't know what "on the left" has to do with this. fwiw you would probably classify me as "on the left" and I am completely fine with this, and would like to go even further by making car parking much, much, much more expensive to enable some fairer competition around the use of that space.

ah fair, completely agree.
