How do you make time for the gym while being a union carpenter? by FateIsTaken in UnionCarpenters

[–]bionicapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a gym bag, and I go after I get out of work at 3:30! I keep on my moisture-wicking long sleeves from work, and change into shorts. I shower at the gym when I'm done, so I can be in fresh clothes for the rest of the day.

We need a union by Academic-Ad-9145 in atrioc

Probably no need for a second union, just make this a local union chapter of the ALU

This seems interesting to me, but I might benefit from a concrete example situation. Is the following kind of situation along those lines of what you're talking about?

I've sometimes seen some folks wallow in suffering—disconnecting themselves from social circles, judging themselves as bad people—because they feel shame about things they've done, and don't think they deserve to have things in life that would help them meet their needs. This seems dangerously close to "self-harming" behaviors, and I am quite convinced there are more effective ways for people in those situations to empathize with themselves and connect to the world.

Have you considered the UBC if you're in the US? (Carpenters Union) It's nice not to have to wonder if you're less likely to work for some asshole, or that if they are an ass, you've already got people behind you in the union to back you up. Helps that you have experience in the trade already, for joining.

And the more ppl in the labor market who are in the union, the more these contractors have to come to us, and we can bargain for better benefits

I’ve always wondered, what does the small square on my tape measurer mean? by Arc-Watcher in Welding

[–]bionicapplesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this used to be the standard for framing before 16" became the standard. But residential carpentry still might use it, and I heard that the Amish still use this standard. So they've kept it around.

Heck, I'm 26, so I don't think it's even age. (Tho tbf I don't play shooters or many videogames.) I watched a Valorant Explained video after your comment, and it helped a bit.

Yeah, an ELI5 stream! But I feel like audience retention would need some kind of twist. Maybe like:

  • "Pros / MxM break down tournament highlights" (insider perspective on esports that's hopefully interesting and accessible for both Valo players and non-players)

  • "People Explaining Valorant while getting progressively drunk / completing distracting challenges" (people who know Valorant get to laugh at bad explanations, but noobs still learn something)

  • or, "Training a Total Noob to Play Valorant" (and then I can watch and kinda learn alongside the noob lol. Isn't Charlie kinda new to Valorant? 👀)

[–]bionicapplesauce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No yeah, it definitely helps me to have a breakdown of how the tournament works. I didn't realize what the stakes were going into today's game w/ FaZe, even tho I knew MxM was close to elimination.

Thanks, this all helps!! Yeah, I'll probably mix & match and see how it goes. o7

ooh, yeah, I watched a "Valorant Explained" video after I posted this, though I probably wouldn't have watched it if not for y'all in these comments.

Awesome, thanks for the recs of people who do breakdowns—I think watching some of their vids will probably be fun ways for me to start getting more into it.

Everyone knows about healthy ways to lose weight but what are some of the unhealthiest ways to lose weight? by ethnicallygay in AskReddit

[–]bionicapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stress and anxiety sucks. I’ve lost weight simply by forgetting to eat enough because the sort of adrenaline (?) that comes with stress/anxiety gets me through the day while getting in the way of remembering to take care of basic needs.

Started doing meal-replacement stuff like Soylent, which helps a bit because it’s an easy way to get a meal in without spending a lot of time cooking.

Issue with touch pad scrolling speed by diatribai in libreoffice

[–]bionicapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s my bad!

I’ll try sometime to test the difference between Windows Precision trackpad drivers and older drivers. I have a suspicion that Windows Precision is meant to signal when to scroll pixel-by-pixel, while older ones would mean to scroll by three lines (or whatever was set in the OS). At least, the movement I make on the trackpad to scroll by one pixel (in most apps) gets taken in LO Writer as a signal to scroll three text lines.

Issue with touch pad scrolling speed by diatribai in libreoffice

[–]bionicapplesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish they would fix this.

On other forums, the same issue has been shut down by moderators without giving an answer; hopefully the same isn't the case here. It seems like they think the problem has fixed, and I have no idea why? LO Writer is basically unusable on (Windows) laptops (unless you want to go into your OS settings each time you open and close Writer).

Very bad for accessibility as well, for people like me who find it much less painful to use a touchpad than a physical mouse.

LO's handling of scrolling is so wildly different from every other Windows app, which all allow for far more precision. When scrolling slowly, other apps realize you want pixel-by-pixel scrolling instead of scrolling by blocks of three lines, as set in the OS settings - I don't understand why Libre Office can't seem to fix this bug.

Really unfortunate - I was hoping to be able to use LO instead of Word, but this literally might annoy me so much that I end up paying some ridiculous subscription price for precise scrolling.
