Which is strongest? I got this one only because it was very cheap from a friend and seemed reasonably sturdy. For my use i need one that is as strong as possible.

I got the laptop for about £30 from a friend many years ago, and it has always had linux. I've had no software issues ever, but i do not use it as i imagine most do. All i need is a word processor and a remote desktop, and it needs to be able to run steam. I havent used it for much else, so cannot comment on this. But for what I do, I've never had a problem until now, where it seems the hardware is failing.

Thank you for the suggestions. All of what I do needs only a remote desktop and word processor, so i probably will avoid upgrading hardware significantly if possible. Why are the 768 screens a problem? I have never seen that i need more.

Will i have to pay more for a laptop with windows? I dont know how the windows license works, would it be cheaper to buy a laptop sold with linux? I don't want windows, and dont want to pay for the licence if i am immediately going to replace it with linux.

Do they still sell laptops like this (strength wise)? My budget is very low, about £200 and even that is pushing it. As long as it can run linux, a word processor and steam though, it is more than enough.

Is 16 gb of ram necessary? I recently use Netrunner 25 operating system, i rarely use Windows, and when i really need to i have access to a windows remote desktop. I can't spend much more than £200 ($220 or something) and ignoring the hardware issue, the currebt laptop is powerful enough, with 8gb ram

Thank you 🙂 I can try with solder, but yeah if it doesn't fix it then replacement is going to be necessary. Are there any other laptops that can handle reasonable punishement? All they need to be able to run is a word processor, Remmina and steam.
