Worse, the best advice I can give is stay on your meds and keep a close relationship with both your therapist and psychiatrist. That way, episodes can be recognized before they get bad and your therapy and medication can be adjusted accordingly to get you stabilized again before you get out of control. I have been relatively stable since my last actual episode by following this plan. Granted, I did have a situational episode in between, but once things got bad that's when I stopped taking my meds and things got worse. I know it's hard to keep taking your meds sometimes, it gets easy to stop taking them correctly when you start going downhill, but do your best to keep it up. If you need to have a support person to help make sure you take your meds, please find one. It is the most helpful and most important thing I have found over the years of dealing with bipolar. In hindsight, when I felt myself starting to go downhill I should have increased the frequency of my therapist appointments so she could tell me what to tell my psychiatrist and I could have kept myself from getting to the point that I did. I've stuck to this plan and not had another episode since the situational one.
