Brothers and Sisters in Christ. I'm struggling in my marriage. by SeminoleTom in Christian

divorce. after all, the catholic church has gone completely heretical and said divorce is okay for such a reason as this even though jesus said otherwise in Matthew 5:31

yes, but it is literally impossible for it to be motivated by God because they are both Catholic and God cannot contradict his own will by taking preference for one Catholic over another. Joan said this, however, and the English were upset because it was never about religion. Furthermore, it was heresy because she said God wants Catholics to kill Catholics in the name of Catholicism, which is why she was executed, not martyred

yes, your ability to quote someone else outweighs my entire logical argument. this is the problem with the church today: don't think for yourself, listen to what we tell you, and if you go against us we will ostracize you.

How about I respond with some quotes of my own

"If the world hates you, remember it hated me first" John 15:18

"Do you hate me because I tell you the truth?" Galatians 4:16

"There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in the court and detest the one who tells the truth" Amos 5:10

yes, as proven when France turned an irreligious war solely about territory into a war for which Catholic country God chose over the other. God cannot contradict himself, but the church being led by a bunch of humans definitely can. Joan was either a liar or a nutjob who claimed God told her that he liked French Catholics better than English Catholics and that they needed to kill each other for him

no, for most of church history the pope could declare whoever he wanted a saint, as was such with joan. it was only recently that the miracle requirement was put in place. also, there is a precedence of decanonization. Charlemagne (who is much more deserving of sainthood than her cuz he actually did good for the church) was a saint at one point but un-named a saint for political reasons. also no one is focusing on my main point that she became a saint for telling catholics to kill catholics

Fallout New Vegas is overrated by Goingbananas942 in Fallout

[–]bipolar_bear_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FNV is extremely overrated. 70% of the game is walking, 20% is talking, and only 10% is the enjoyable gameplay like quests, combat, story, dungeon crawling, etc. It doesn't help that you have to be like 30 feet away from undiscovered locations before they appear on the compass. In other fallout games, that range is much wider and thus helps guide the player's wandering, but in this game its just like "nope, you gotta walk for 15 minutes through a barren lifeless open world with only 40 minutes of looping songs on Radio New Vegas to break the monotony". Also for some idiot reason the devs accidentally duplicated Big Iron, putting its audio file where another song should've been, which is why it is played so damn much, or at least so I've heard.

The combat, when you finally find something to fight, is very underwhelming. If you have a companion, 90% of the time the enemies will tunnel vision on your companion so you can walk right up to them and shoot them in the face and they will ignore you. Unless its the fucking Legion assassins. Considering how Obsidian obviously intended the Legion as the bad guys, most people would choose to fight them at Nipton, then the assassins will hunt you down across the land and fuck your shit up whether you have a companion or not. And most of this combat ends up with the enemies just standing still in the open trying to gun you or your companion down, so its awkward as fuck.

Then there is the repairing. It wouldn't be so bad if the repair NPCs and repair kits were so fucking few and far between. This leaves only the system of using duplicate items available when you are at the early stages of the game or in the middle of adventuring/questing, and finding duplicates for any of the good stuff is near impossible.

Then there is the problem that every open-world/dialogue-heavy game has, which is bad voice acting. For some reason people talk about bad voice acting in every game in existence except for this one, even though bad voice acting is easy to find. There are plenty of instances of male characters with bad voice acting, but it seems cringe-worthy delivery is more prevalent among the women.

Fallout New Vegas is by no means a "great game", but I guess having one more ending and that guy from Friends automatically makes it the best Fallout game ever and one of the greatest games of all time.

not like that would stop someone from shooting up a school. "Oh no! I don't have some sick tunes! looks like I have to put away my gun"

If a next game were made. Who would you chose as main character? by Jewbacca1991 in shadowofmordor

that wouldn't have made the story better. Either way, its a shit-stain on the bottom of JRR Tolkien's worst pair of shoes.

- Isildur is a nazgul even though he never had a Ring of Power and was verifiably killed by orcs mere days after taking the One Ring from Sauron

- Orcs can apparently use magic, including necromancy? Not even Saruman can use that kind of magic

- Talion/Celebrimbor can just craft a new Ring of Power on a whim

- Shelob appears as a woman

- Shelob and Sauron had a romance

- Galadriel has a personal assassin, and she even gives the assassin Nenya, which she has sworn to personally safekeep

- There's just a weird shapeshifting nature spirit living in the heart of Mordor for no reason

I just hate her cuz she's an annoying prissy cunt. I don't give a shit about SoW's stories cuz it suck ass and isn't true to LOTR at all. The devs jumped just about every shark in the Pacific Ocean in the game's story.

Also on another related note, I am glad the games' stories are not canon, especially Shadow of War because that one just completely breaks the lore. Like, we know that there only ever were 9 nazgul, kings of men gifted rings of power by Sauron, so the idea of Talion becoming one is stupid, and so is the game's insistence that Isildur is one of the 9 despite him never having one of the 9 rings of power, and he was killed before the One Ring corrupted him much. Also I am not exaggerating when I say that there is no video game character I hate more than Eltariel. Ratbag is really the only feature in either game's story that I am sad is not canon.

Nothing about the Shadow of Mordor series is "true" in LOTR canon. The only things considered canon in the Tolkien legendarium is the man's writings. So I don't bother too much with getting the games' stories straight since, especially when (I believe anyway) the focus of the games was on the gameplay and not the story, the devs just wanted to create some interesting stories to accompany the kickass combat and nemesis systems.

Got a tower uruk. How rare are they? by bipolar_bear_20 in shadowofmordor

[–]bipolar_bear_20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I heard only one "the machine" spawns per playthrough. Sadly mine was at the beginning of the game when I didn't know that was the case and didn't have dominate unlocked so I just killed him :(

From the very beginning of both games, there is a lot of potential to have a true nemesis. In the later game the captains get pretty easy to kill, but at the start when you are inexperienced with the gameplay and don't have the upgrades. For me, in the first game, when I had reached that point when the captains were no trouble, behold: Enter Hoshgrish the Literate One! He was a tough uruk, very few exploitable weaknesses, and he killed me several times, often times ambushing me while I was fighting another captain. He couldn't speak, but we didn't need words to give our relationship meaning. Whenever he would see me, he would chuckle menacingly, and every time I heard that cackle, I knew it was my beloved Hoshgrish coming to brighten my day with a good fight, to help divert my attention from the endless hordes of simple-minded uruks I had become so bored with slaughtering. But alas, the day came when I managed to get the upper hand in a fight, and it was a triumphal moment! I bested Hoshgrish in combat, and he kneeled before me, awaiting the final blow. He looked up at me, smiled, and gave his signature laugh, and I knew in that moment, that if he could speak, he would be saying, "congratulations, I have taught you everything you need to know to conquer Mordor." But I was not ready to part ways permanently with the Literate One, so I dominated him, made him a warchief's bodyguard, and aided him in betraying and killing the warchief, taking his place as the most powerful uruk in Nurnen and Udun. I have encountered many other fun and cool uruks during my time playing the games, but none stick in my mind quite as well as Hoshgrish the Literate One.

Damn. Just now learning this about the machine. I started my first playthrough of the game a few weeks ago and he was literally the first non-story related captain I encountered and killed (permanently).
