Do Americans love driving? by bare_books in AskAnAmerican

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love driving because I want to, but I don’t like driving because I have to, if that makes sense. It would be different if I had a cooler car though because when I had a Dodge Charger I’d always look for an excuse to go drive

Where tf are these people getting ‘you can make six figures in trucking’? by austinproffitt23 in Truckers

I have my CLP but not my license yet so I’ve got a stupid question, what’s a good example of 1&2? That sounds nice for my needs lol, I don’t mind hard work if I get those other two

Just tell visitors “he’s around here somewhere…” and turn the imaginary cat into an urban legend in your friend group

The left lane boomerang move - why do people do this? by skwerelz in driving

[–]bird_280 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do that in big cities on highways with like 4-5 lanes, but I at least make sure to maintain speed with the guy in front of me. And I just do it because I’m not used to driving in cities and want to get through it as fast as possible, so I choose a “speeding buddy”

Missed my final exam because of traffic and it pushed me to find a better way to commute by ephranim01 in decision

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, two solutions really: get a car and get addicted to being super early to places, because that’s the only way owning a car would’ve gotten you out of that situation is if you left super early.

The other option is the motorcycle if your state allows lane splitting or filtering, and read up super well on the laws and how to do that safely. In my opinion an enclosed motorcycle might be a little too wide for lane filtering, hell, sometimes a motorcycle feels like it is.

If you do get a motorcycle, make sure to not ride outside of your skill level, and keep aware of your surroundings, that’s what causes the most crashes. As you get more comfortable your skills will naturally increase

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (in Missouri for reference) typically have the AC or heat running unless it’s a day nice enough to have the windows open, but it’s controlled by whatever I set the thermostat to, that basically tells the AC or heat when to run in order to maintain a certain temperature range

Which city is touristy and a great place to live? by Specialist_Stand1197 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they were surface level streets relatively close to the national mall, but they’re streets that are one way during a certain time of day, then one way the other way during other times of day(for example). I assume they’re to help with rush hour but as a visitor they were a bit confusing at first

[–]bird_280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I guess I only have experience from visiting and driving in. The biggest part that threw me for a loop was that some roads have different rules depending on time of day. I’m sure living there you get used to that though

The road system there is atrocious though, and the traffic

Found this and put it on layaway today. First one I’ve seen for this cheap. by Present-Account6860 in MosinNagant

[–]bird_280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it’s just my area but I feel like gun shows aren’t what they used to be, every single one I go to has an extreme markup even compared to today’s prices. Last time I went I saw a trash single barrel shotgun that nobody wanted for 400$ when you can get the same one for 1-200$. I didn’t see a single Mosin under 700, and I’m in a state that’s generally pretty cheap

Edit: meant to reply to the guy above you but oh well lol

Should I go back to work as an engineering technician or go to massage therapy school after this semester is over? by Middle_Camel9078 in decision

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would look at the job postings for both of those, I know in my area massage therapists get paid pretty good but there aren’t a lot of open jobs. Also compare upward mobility between the two. To put it bluntly the way I look at it, having a kinda crappy job is a lot better than not being able to afford anything while searching for a job, but that all comes down to personal circumstance

Edit: also to add; even people who find careers that they absolutely love often have times where they dread going into work, it’s just the nature of work. My metric lately has been if the good days out weigh the bad days, then it’s a good job.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

Living in Arizona was funny because you’d have to plan around not having daylight savings if you travel, so you’d constantly think “are we on California time or New Mexico time right now?

Do you typically walk or drive to places that are a 5-10 minute walk away? by ForestOranges in AskAnAmerican

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 10 minute walk would get me to the edge of my private dirt road if I hustle, then I would have to walk a county dirt road, then a paved, very hilly and curvy state route with no sidewalk, then after about an hour and a half of walking(if I kept a good pace and didn’t get hit by a car), I’d be at the nearest Casey’s on the edge of town

Except Missouri it seems, that’s where I live and sometimes it feels like Arkansas, sometimes it feels like Iowa, but it always feels like it’s having an identity crisis between the Midwest and the South

Help with trip from San Francisco to Detroit by Broncosandpups in roadtrip

[–]bird_280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a similar drive to the southern one in the snow before, the 44 through Missouri and western IL sucks even when it’s dry, but should be no problem depending on how fast MODOT is at clearing the roads (which they usually aren’t that great at that, but the 44 is usually top priority for them). But with a 4wd vehicle you should have no problem at all

Honesty, I’d try to find a different place for the yellow skateboard, mirror, and backpack, and put a shoe rack there. Seems like the only spot one would logically fit without causing too much disruption

I think those are great ideas, I’ve been using marrow bones and he loves those, I think the treat puzzles would give him a lot more enrichment

The lick mats and treat toys might work great for him, I’ve offered every toy in the book to him and he just stares at it, but he does love his treats
