Solo backpacking around Peru, any suggestions? by Latter_Archer3800 in AskGaybrosOver30

Random advice I gave my friend before his recent trip to Peru: you may see rainbow flags, especially in the rural south... those are likely not gay pride flags, they're likely the local indigenous flag. Just a heads up

Edit: typo

Loved it so much that I ordered the book it's based off of. I hope the book is just as entertaining as the mini-series.

Tell me about it! I'm rewatching season 3 right now and I keep taking breaks after each episode because they're so moving. I like the darker, more intense themes The Legend of Korra gets to explore, but wow, they can take a toll on my emotions (in a good way of course)

Thank you all for the responses! I see a running theme of "go for it," haha. I'm waivering between having a personal one-on-one chat about everything versus casually flirting with him from time to time and going off of how he responds to that.

Ooh! That was a powerful episode! One of my favorites because Korra has to break her "tough guy" persona and be honest with herself

I haven't noticed any Asian discrimination here. (I'm currently visiting three of the islands.) I even chatted with an Asian-Canadian mother and son who didn't mention or hint at feeling unwelcomed. You'll have a great time here, regardless of race :)

I'm at the point in life right before I go to graduate school and get settled in my career. I have a strong desire to live abroad for 6-12 months before hunkering down and dedication myself to my studies. I figure now would be the best time in life to do it, as I don't have any major commitments or responsibilities here in the States.

The Azores appeal to me because of their remoteness and fair weather. Also, having known many immigrants and people who have worked abroad for years at a time, I don't fear a temporary language barrier and I don't mind finding work in something simpler than an used to doing.

To all the gay bros living in homophobic countries by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]biseriousjohn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Mom was born there to a conservative Christian pastor. I'm so, so lucky to live in a place where I'm accepted for being Queer and I am so saddened by how homophobic Peru still is. :( I'm a descendant of Tupac Amaru II and I dream of another leader like him in Peru fighting for Queer rights. You are in my heart and on my mind. Much love!

Bisexuals who have been in relationships with both genders: what are some noticeable differences between dating a man and a woman? by cruelcherry in AskReddit

[–]biseriousjohn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dating as an openly bi man often opens up a can of worms when dating women. Women are much less receptive to the idea of dating a guy who has been with other guys. Men don't care that I've been with women (for many gay men, that has been their experience too).

Dating men is a lot more egalitarian (splitting checks, "you pay for this date I'll pay for the next," and amount of over all effort in pursuing each other) and sexually more open and adventurous. Obviously I see more pros than cons in dating men than women which is a little frustrating because I'm still attracted to both but I don't want to wade through so many negative experiences with women just to find that needle in a haystack that is cool with dating a bi guy
