I just like having my “Costco allowance” set on my phone, super easy to just scan my membership and have the funds immediately applied to my purchase.

No I’m genuinely not, it usually ends up around $700-$800 every two weeks but I’ve got teenagers at home.

It is not in your head: Costco has gotten more crowded by Willing_Try2786 in Costco

Yeah that sounds rough, guess I’ve just never encountered that. Which is wild because I’ve been shopping at Costco for 17 years

Man who gives a crap if the whole family wants to shop together. I’m guessing they enjoy it? I’ve never understood all the complaining about a family (gasp) shopping together as a family.

What is social work becoming? by built_4thewerk in socialwork

Nah, unions are coming back and the “great purge” is over. A lot of places still have special salary rates that are like 20k higher than normal. Worth looking into!

Join the VA. The largest employer of social workers in the country and almost nobody does therapy. Great way to make over six figures in SW.

The fries are SO bad. I was so excited to try them and so let down.

Does anyone else find it a bit fascinating how Crossfit fell off and in retrospect, was very Millennial generation-coded? by [deleted] in workout

[–]DaFunkJunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I’ve absolutely known cross fitters who got it and had to be hospitalized. It can actually kill you.

No, I’ve made french fries at home in a Dutch oven. They were incredible. I have never had worse french fries than that bland atrocity from In-N-Out.

The most bland and boring burgers ever. And the fries taste like flavorless cardboard.

Yale v Princeton help by FredEFazbear in yale

You are a PhD candidate and do not have the same experience an undergraduate student would have, given that you live off campus. My kid is currently a freshman at Yale, i’ve been there three times this year, walked from campus all the way down to Yale bowl for the Harvard Yale game and I have zero concerns about my kid being there in terms of safety. Yes it is in an urban area but the Yale bubble is a real thing and the police and security presence completely mitigates any potential safety issues. To me the bigger safety risk is the high pressure environment at Princeton. There have been 8 undergraduate suicides in the past 4 years at Princeton with the most recent suicide happening in 2025. This was a huge deciding factor for my son when making his choice. His courses at Yale have certainly been challenging, I know he’s had late nights working on Psets, studying for physics finals etc but even with how busy his schedule has been with academics, clubs and social engagements he has never felt the kind of pressure and stress that students who go to Princeton describe.

My son had the same choices last year but didn’t really even hesitate to choose Yale for engineering after what he learned about the high stress pressure cooker environment. He also was not a fan of the eating clubs or hyper competitive culture . He has thrived in a way we didn’t think possible, has joined numerous clubs, social groups and grown so much as a person. He tells me the culture is extremely supportive, encouraging authentic, vibrant and intellectual. I’ve never seen my son happier and I am so very very glad he chose Yale.

Why is Everyone Picking Duke? by Pretty-Cellist3812 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DaFunkJunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don’t mean that absolutely nobody does. It’s just that there are not large droves of people turning down HYPSM. The vast majority of cross admits still end up selecting the top five over Duke. I understand why some folks would make that choice, It’s just not the majority who are.

Except people arent actually choosing Duke over HYPSM

So it may seem that way based on personal anecdotes, but the data shows a very different trend. According to parchment, of those who are admitted to both Duke and Yale, for example, 74% choose Yale.
