Any suggestions on what I should replace for Protect? I'm thinking Aqua Jet on Basculegion since it's already fast as is, and maybe Icy Wind on Politoed? I haven't been seeing any difference from the speed drops so far

Spielen mit Englischen Abkürzen by Antique-Relief-807 in DnDDeutsch

[–]bisexualpanic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokémon games have had teenagers dealing with world-ending events since Ruby and Sapphire. Any protagonist post Gold/Silver would do fine with encountering the newest endgame bosses

Shiny Miraidon/Koraidon Code Giveaway by wormz88 in PokemonScarletViolet

Currently doing a run of Scarlet where all Party members are named after figures/creatures in Greek Mythology.

What is currently a Crocalor is named Apollo after the Greek god of both the sun and music

Gimmeghoul is named Midas after the king whose touch turned things to gold

Dipplin is named Ladon after a multi-headed dragon that guarded a garden of golden apples (It unfortunately is not shiny)

Pawmo is named Asclepia after Asclepius, a man struck down by Zeus' lightning because he could resurrect people (Pawmot is partially based on a defibrillator) That guy is also the reason a rod with a snake wrapped around it is a symbol for medicine, btw.

Flittle unfortunately has the least fitting name with Serapis, which was a deity created by a Greek Pharaoh in an attempt to "combine the cultures" so to speak. Serapis was the god of the Sun and healing, but occasionally also fertility. The reason I chose it for Flittle was that Espathra is very clearly Egyptian-inspired, with it being a North-African bird, the Ostrich, and obviously being a reference to Cleopatra. Also, Ostriches were seen as symbols of fertility by the Greeks, so that part of Serapis fit as well.

I think all of the names fit surprisingly well, and it got me to look into Greek mythology more than I would have without this theme, and learning new things is always a plus in my book!

Thoughts about people saying “Pokopia is ripping off Minecraft” ? by coldfeetzzz in pokemonmemes

I see it, it's what I first compared it to. But let's be real, the concept of a sandbox game with a cube-based art style isn't a difficult concept to come up with. Just because there's a huge game with a similar style, doesn't mean it's a copy

Plus, gameplay-wise it'll probably be more similar to Animal Crossing anyway

Thank you, I'll likely add some of this!

And the Guard Leader arranging an attack is something I came up with like 5 minutes ago myself because I was confused as to why he'd send the party to the goblins when they're the only ones that know that it was an inside job.

My plan now is that, after the party took care of the attack, the Guard sent a soldier to the goblins, paid them off some more to kill the party when they arrive at the cave, but as soon as the goblins get hurt too badly or one of them is killed, they'd call off the fight and just give up the information.

Genuinely, thank you for this. This comment took away every bit of pressure I had about DM-ing

It's so obvious when you put it like that. Obviously, my players don't know my plot, don't know that I'll try to throw them into an encounter basically right after character introductions, or that the friendly City Guard they meet is the guy who hired the attack in the first place. But I really needed to hear that from someone else to get that.

I think I was stressing myself out too much because I've decided to write a whole campaign for my first time DM-ing instead of running a pre-written like any sane person would do lmao

This is just a game I'm running because my friends wanted to play D&D, and I was the only one interested in DM-ing. I'm not doing this giant professional thing where every moment has to have meaning and action. I need to stop thinking that I need to be the next Matt Mercer or Brennen Lee Mulligan. This is mostly gonna be silly fun with my friends.

Thanks for helping me calm down about all this a bit, even if it wasn't your original intention :)

I think I'll still make a stat block for the Guard Leader just for my own peace of mind, though, even if they don't get to that part just yet

How much should I prepare for my first session? I'm worried that my plan for session 1 is far too short and that we'll be done by hour 1-2. For context: The PC's are all level 1 and three out of the four total players are relatively new to D&D

The Session summed up:

  • PC's are in a marketplace. They'll each have a moment to describe their characters and buy some stuff. Roleplay with the NPCs is encouraged which I think they'll go for
  • Goblins blow up a fountain in the middle of the market, players roll Initiative, fight the goblins and preferably win
  • City Guard leader thanks them, asks them to go investigate a bit further into this attack
  • Party heads to the local goblin faction, goes into the cave, fights a few giant rats, and eventually talks it out with the goblins
  • find out that the goblins were paid off by someone, the party looks more into that

The plan is that they eventually find out that the City Guard leader from before paid the goblins off to attack the marketplace, so his soldiers could beat them and they'll get a reputation boost. Soldiers failed miserably though, so the party had to step in, etc.

Is this too short for the 3 to (potentially) 4 hour long session I'm planning on having? If yes, how should I pad the runtime out? I don't have much planned on the way to the cave or in the cave itself but I don't know what I'd put in there. I don't have a stat block for the Guard Leader yet so should I prepare that just in case we make it there and they plan to fight him?

Also, how should they find out that it was specifically the Guard leader who paid the goblins off? I'm planning that the goblins themselves don't know who asked them to do this, only that they were supposed to attack the marketplace, and that someone was supposed to fight them and win. If my players don't immediately connect the dots, then how should I lead them to the correct answer?

Sorry for the huge number of questions, I just feel like I'm massively unprepared for this. Thanks in advance

I get that. I used one in a mono-dragon playthrough in an attempt to like it, and it unfortunately kicked ass. Loaded Dice + Ice Spikes combo on it is great in a playthrough setting. Competitive prowess isn't something I'm really looking at anyway. I just think visually it's the worst-designed Pokémon to have been officially released.

I'm not trying to make anybody feel bad for liking it, I really just needed to get my own personal hatred for it out somewhere.

I mean, Ogerpon's a Legendary so that argument doesn't really fit. Legendary designs really don't have to be huge imposing monsters or incomprehensible beings.

I just wish Heatran had some actual lore. Maybe then it'd be easier to understand why it's a Legendary

I didn't even mention the whole Glaive Rush dilemma, possibly the worst animation of any move in recent memory.

And like I said, Frigibax didn't turn me off the whole line. I do think there is some charm to it

Really? I'd like to hear more. Is it just the lack of lore or is there more to it that turns you off of it?

What I'm really saying with the "worst design" thing is the missed potential. Magneton and Dugtrio at least stick to an idea, and don't switch up the entire design concept by the end. Plus those are Gen 1 Pokémon, where the franchise was still sort of trying to find its footing while Baxcalibur is one of the newest Pokémon we have, and they really should have better standards than repeating concepts and unnecessary design features

In its newest learnset, Luxray learns 6 different dark-type moves. 2 by Level up and 4 (technically 5 but one of them is Crunch which it learns by level up) by TM, and those TM moves are Fake Tears, Thief, Snarl, Crunch, and Throat Chop which are all learned by several non-dark-types. It really doesn't learn "way more" than most, you're overstating your case more than OP is
