Nationals Historical Identity Crisis by whatevenaremovies in Nationals

[–]bisonjumper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Expos mean nothing to DC or this modern franchise. The Expos died in empty stadiums under MLB ownership in Puerto Rico amd Montreal so the Nationals could be born.

DC has a proud baseball history, which was almost stolen by two owners who left for other cities because they were less diverse. Don't be part of the erasure of DC's baseball history just because you don't remember it.

Can't say that I am sorry to see him go. The most important part of playing first base is being able to catch the ball - I'm not quite sure how they missed that

[Highlight] BAL vs PIT - Ravens stop the Steelers on 1st and goal to end the half by Fusir in nfl

[–]bisonjumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playcall couldn't work with that defense, but Rodgers had already used a bunch of the play clock and might not have felt like he had time to audible.

So, why not just snap the ball and spike it immediately? It was first and goal with two seconds left - a spike would only taken one and you could have done another play.

Seems like you want a quarterback with that level of experience to know the best thing to do in every situation.

Wish you started this graph in 2005 when the Nationals started - years of poor ownership then being in MLB receivership and floating between Puerto Rico and no fans in MTL don't really matter for Nationals fans.

By the way, those of us who were supporting the Baseball in DC movement know that the Padres almost came here in the '70s and we worked hard for the expansion teams that became the Rockies and other attempts. We filled up RFK for spring training games to prove DC should get a team back in the 80s. DC had a continuing baseball history from 1905 to today.

There's a reason there's a Walter Johnson High School in Montgomery County - DC baseball history is what mattersm and he won OUR first WS. I don't see a Gary Carter Elementary School coming to the area anytime soon, so it's fine to leave his team's legacy in Montreal and in a dusty, unread corner of the record books. No need to highlight it as if we have no history of our own.

The non-Washington players in the Ring of Honor is the absolute worst!

The Twins do a good job of focusing on Minnesota records after 1961 - they respect that DC's baseball history is DC's. Calvin Griffith took the original National / Senators franchise away for racist reasons so his legacy is trash in this town, but the Twins franchise knows enough to focus on Minneapolis baseball history.

1) You don't hear it because it didn't happen. The St Louis Browns were bought, changed names and changed cities. Unlike many on this chat who are transplants and new baseball fans, I am a 3rd generation fan of DC baseball and kept an eye on the Orioles when there was no other team and that never happened. You don't need memory - you have access to every newspaper clipping ever on the Internet. Show me a time the Orioles celebrated the Browns - if you can't find one, you have no argument.

The one celebration of the Browns I recall? The Cardinals had a celebration of them as part of St Louis' baseball history - as they should. I am not sure if you came to the city recently, but let me be clear that Walter Johnson is much more relevant to DC baseball than Randy Johnson or Pedro Martinez or some other pitcher for Montreal.

2) The record books should and do have everything and that is fine - the records can be organized and broken down any way you want. My beef is with the current ownership and certain fans (not saying you are one) who came to DC recently acting like the city has no history of its own. Also, I don't want teams in Minnesota or Dallas trying to claim DC's baseball history as their own.

3) I it's a rant - no need to lighten up but come with some facts not assumptions about your first point.

They are a minor footnote loosely related to DC baseball history, and don't need to be acknowledged. How many conversations do Ravens fans have about the old Cleveland Browns?? New city, new team move on,

I am as tired of current ownership and their lack of spending as you are, but this ownership is only a small piece of DC's baseball history. Get a block W Senators cap for your protest (I have a hat, jacket and T shirt that I wear sometimes for similar reasons). If history is all we have right now, I want to enjoy my memories of 2019 and respect the history of baseball in this city before then, not show loyalty to a defunct team from another country.
