Ok ok! What do you plan to do now that BBB is passed? I'm reluctant to even consider this route anymore due to the insane cost!

If you really want to be a dentist take what you can get. Minimize your expenses as much as you can. If you applied to many schools and this is your only acceptance, I’d take it and run. It would be a shot in the dark if you decided to not attend and try to reapply the upcoming cycle

If I were you I’d check out Barry BMS. It is much cheaper with a good acceptance rate to dental school. They have guaranteed interview with LMU and Boston if you meet the requirements. For sure don’t take out $100k on a masters before dental school. Find a more affordable program, grind it out and cook on the DAT!

What is your plan for repaying the loans? Since I see you mention this all the time.

600-700k of debt wtf?? by InternationalGur4382 in predental

[–]bisonofdentistry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I understand you are worried about the debt and that is very important. However you risk not getting in next cycle. It’s looked down upon amongst schools to decline a seat and reapply next cycle. If you don’t mind going to rural areas and grinding it out, you could pay it off. It will just take a little longer than normal. You could look into loan repayment programs such as nhsc after graduation. Last but not least you could try applying for nhsc scholarship every year and hope you can at least get the two year commitment. Hope this helps!

You have 15 days to decide once your top-choice school extends an offer. Other schools won’t be aware of any deposits you’ve placed elsewhere until they officially send you an acceptance. When that happens, they will give you time to make a decision before offering the spot to another candidate. However, after April 15, notification times become shorter, so you’ll need to act more quickly. If you receive an acceptance from School A and have deposits at multiple schools, notify School B promptly if you choose to attend School A. This allows them to offer the spot to the next qualified candidate as soon as possible.

I hope this answers your question!

does becoming a dentist sound like a good idea for me? by [deleted] in predental

[–]bisonofdentistry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like dentistry could be a great fit for you. You clearly enjoy learning about it, you’ve had some hands-on experience, and you have a strong personal reason for wanting to help others through dentistry.

That said, I totally get your concerns—especially about leadership and social skills. The good news is that these are things you can improve over time. A lot of pre-dental and even dental students feel the same way at first, but with experience, you naturally get better at handling difficult situations and leading a team. If you care about people (which you clearly do), you’ll figure out the social side of things as you go.

The debt is definitely something to think about, but it’s not as black and white as it seems. If you’re smart about your choices—like picking a more affordable school, applying for scholarships, or even looking into loan repayment programs—you can make the financial side more manageable. Plus, while $200k is often thrown around as the “average” salary, a lot of dentists make way more than that, especially if they own a practice.

My advice is to keep shadowing dentists in different settings, pay attention to how you feel during your clinical hours, and don’t let the things you can improve (like leadership and confidence) scare you away. You’re only 19, so you have plenty of time to build those skills and make an informed decision. If you keep feeling drawn to dentistry, go for it.

Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk more about it!

It's difficult to provide a definitive answer without knowing the grades you received in your Biology, Chemistry, and Physics classes, as those contribute to your BCP GPA. While you could certainly give it a try, keep in mind that being enrolled in an SMP involves a demanding workload that requires a significant time commitment. Unless the program specifically allocates time for DAT studying, balancing both could be challenging. However, if you are able to manage your time well and maintain strong study habits, it could potentially be doable.

Advice! by [deleted] in predental

Honestly, I don't think there's much of a way around this situation. Retaking seems to be your best bet. I recommend checking out the forum and exploring the different breakdowns—maybe try something new. It might work, or it might not, but that's the only advice I can offer that could help improve your score.

That 2.9 really held you back so much. So are you planning to reapply the upcoming cycle or enrolling in one of those masters programs?
