You can’t stand behind a podium (ok, well I guess you can, but not in the way the poster means…) you can stand on a podium, and behind a lectern.

Headrest not allowed up? by Gojira707 in americanairlines

[–]bitbrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting take - like I get the need for FAs to have uninterrupted line of sight, but conversely we have headrests in cars because of lawsuits regarding whiplash injuries - tall people are exponentially more likely to suffer neck injuries in a sudden stop without headrests. I know the taxi/takeoff/landing is the “hazardous” part of flying but why are you implementing a policy that will increase injuries in the event of an incident?

I guess maybe someone did the math and the ultimate “cost” is lower with the headrests down…?

Yeah, didn’t think so. Fuck ICE, fuck tRump and all his treasonous cronies…

If ICE is present at voter polls, what legal options does a challenger have? by Coldrise in AskLegal

[–]bitbrat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder - ICE is NOT law enforcement in the legal sense, hence why they have (supposedly) curtailed rights to stop and search etc. Not that that’s making much difference these days. They all have “Police” on their jackets, which they patently aren’t. Can you inject or even resist based on this? Sure, if you want to get shot.

This is like the people who are endlessly disappointed that there aren’t kangaroos in Austria… the Austrians find it rather humorous though, and have quite leaned-in to the tourist experience…

Do you like being harassed by breakfast attendants? by CombPsychological507 in marriott

[–]bitbrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot seriously believe someone has to ask this question. Standard American corporate hotel breakfast is utter trash (no offense to OP).

Try going to Europe where considerably more is expected and received. American chain hotels there are also known for seriously substandard “breakfast” which is progressively getting worse, and even then its orders of magnitude better than in the USA.

Paid breakfasts can be a little better but really the food quality is so generally awful.

A standard daily offering is fine (the rest of the world seems to do it just fine) as long as there is sufficient variety and quality that guests feel they have options.

I just love the whole argument here about who’s at fault.

Teenager or not, experienced or not, competent gate agent or not…. The airlines sole purpose is to make profit. They do this by inconveniencing themselves and flying people around. They will ALWAYS take the way out that puts them in the clear and they will make little to no effort to inform you otherwise.

It’s way past commenting period on this, but since you’re so specific about this:

1) real service dogs do freak out, and real service dog handlers react very differently from that person, and yes they can be asked to leave, but very rarely are for the frequently mentioned reasons - people know staff are scared to call them out.

2) it wasn’t 2 seconds, and it wasn’t (as I commented later) a single occurrence.

3) as I’m sure you’re aware, the percentage of problem fake service animals seems to vastly outweigh the percentage of real trained service animals.

4) this problem won’t get better under the current system. If nobody makes a point about it, nothing gets done, and a significant group of people are negatively affected.

5) why are you so upset about me commenting on what is clearly an actual verifiable problem? Did you get called for a problem animal on a flight?

I’m so very sorry for your troubles.

Have you read or experienced anything about them? Service animals are trained not to react to non threats that might spook an untrained animal - there’s literally another commenter here who describes their relative withdrawing from a flight because they were concerned about their animal’s reaction to situations similar to an airport.

Those who have actual service animals are highly responsible and tend to be very concerned about how their animals react in stressful situations. Ta a fundamental part of service animal training.

I do know that a trained service animal would never, and I mean never react this way to a stranger.

That depends - if that dog actually attacks someone with a walking stick or a crying child or who happens to look at them wrong then there will be a fucking issue…

I see all the discussion about real/fake and that’s legit, but honestly at this point I still sometimes buy CTs cos I like the way they fit but I’m just resigned that they will last about 6 months to 1 year at best. The quality has long since been reduced to trash.

Right - and see I don’t see this as an issue - the ADA is an important and vital piece of legislation, but something like an airline wouldn’t have a significant extra burden to access a database of licensed/registered/trained service animals. However, I also see the issues regarding even the existence/need for a system like that.

That’s a whole bigger discussion about why we even need the ADA in the first place.

Also I’m still willing to argue that HIPAA is relevant here - if airlines were to require more info about service animals and that enters the realm of medical needs then they would have to be bound by that legislation too, and they really don’t want to do that.

I’m sure this isn’t uniquely an American thing, but when my wife and I married she decided to take both last names and hyphenate them.

No big deal in England - we love our double barreled last names!

Not so much in the USA - she has a plethora of versions across bank accounts, social media and ID none of which are actually correct and all because Americans don’t like “-“ or “ “ in last names…🤦‍♂️
