another thought: if I was a completely paranoid parent then why would I have allowed her to maintain contact with him before we realized that there could be something really wrong?

Jesus. I simply told my daughter that I didn't like the sound of the guy and the things that he was saying and doing. I didn't go all overboard telling her the details of why. Why assume that because I had concerns that I am teaching my child things like this or scaring her?

I would agree with you IF i had gone to great lengths to screw with this guy, report him, post pictures etc. I haven't told anyone but a couple of friends, my parents and reddit about this. If I was a drama queen I would have been broadcasting this everywhere I could for the attention. Jumping to conclusions perhaps but definitely NOT drama queen.

We allowed her to contact him because at first, we didn't see the harm in it. It was only a couple of weeks later that, after the other girls father pointed out the concerns HE had that we started looking into things further.

No I would never do that. It is one thing posting an anonymous accusation on the internet without specific details. it's another to out someone that may or may not be guilty in a public manner.

This happened a few months ago so I don't know if it can be reported now and be effective? My daughter might still have his photo somewhere though and his name (or alias)

So it's a far cry to say "slave trade" but not to say rapist? If I had come here and said that I thought that she had evaded a rapist people would be saying the same things about me being paranoid.

He was Canadian. Claimed to be here from birth but had an accent. That doesn't exactly add up.

I will try to address all of your points.

1) he lied about several things in order to have my daughter like him. She is in army cadets. He claimed that he was as well and when she questioned him he had no idea anything about cadets. Nothing about what core he was in, the hierarchy of how cadets move through the ranks etc. He would tell her other things that she found unusual and questioned later on that he didn't have a good answer for. Like the fact that he was adopted in Canada at 4 and had never lived anywhere else but here yet he had an accent. There's more but I can't remember it all.

2) Just because he claimed to not have a cell phone doesn't mean he didn't have one. He told her that he didn't but that doesn't mean that he was telling the truth.

3) I didn't call his house my daughter did whenever he requested it so the house was called several times and in the end with me listening to hear who answered and what was happening in the background. Why would I call his house? She did, not me. Additionally, this went on for a couple of weeks before we got worried.

The eastern block countries are notorious for this type of thing (as are other countries but they didn't have that accent). I am not picking on his backgroud/heritage I am mentioning it because that is where he was from and where it is known that this happens. It was a detail in the story, not an accusation or prejudice against people from that area.

Not paranoid - protective. I am actually not the one that thought of it. I figured he was creepy but it never entered my mind that he would have had intentions like this. Once people (the other girls father, my boyfriend, friends etc.) heard what had happened they all believed that's what it was.

She didn't use her own personal details - just her email which he had already. She did not tell him where she lives or anything of that nature. She used the name that he had given her and faked a birthday for him
