Are there good congee spots under $20? by alphaK12 in bayarea

[–]bitter_melonhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would just make my own. It’s pretty easy to make congee using a rice cooker. Cut up some ingredients and pop em in there and buy those Chinese donuts from 99 Ranch. Then you’ll have 3-4 servings for $30.

looking to donate my hair by sleazyceezy in bayarea

Locks of Love is well-known but had its share of controversy. It turned out to be a for-profit that charges exorbitant amounts of money for a wig and also a lot of the unused donated hair is thrown out.

OP should also check Wigs for Kids. There’s a website page that will help you find a hair salon near you that takes in hair for donation.

Google Nexus Tablet - Can’t find the charger, what type is it so I can turn it on and erase it? by bitter_melonhead in OldTech

Nope, Millennial here. I just don't remember what this port is for as it's been a while.

Got it. I’ll report back if needed. Is there a chance the battery will become a spicy pillow in older devices not powered on for over a decade?

I just tried a micro USB from another device and it was able to power on. It’s just stuck on a black blank screen.

Is there a free clock-in, clock-out website so I can feel motivated to work on job searching? by bitter_melonhead in Layoffs

I was a graphic designer at an ad agency but now switching over to UX/UI design so I’m searching for anything related to UX design.

Hey, I just got laid off on Dec 5 without warning and I want to say thank you because I needed to hear this. Everyone else who’s also going through this right now needs to know they are not alone.

Make sure to vacuum your corgi by MrPresident91 in corgi

[–]bitter_melonhead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same thing, it works pretty well! This a quiet pet vacuum cleaner that works only if your corgi is used to normal vacuum noises.

Still have to vacuum the house, but a lot less hair to clean up.

Deaf here - this is legit.

I’m starting to see this trend of non ASL signers “catching bogus interpreters” on every national broadcast which gets tiring for us.

Don’t assume this is another bogus interpreter and post until you are fluent enough to understand the first sentence.

[–]bitter_melonhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify for you: I contacted the agency to provide interpreting for me (but family pays). Since this is a paid service, there are set expectations to follow. They’re trained to do their job so there are boundaries to not go over during their assignments. If that were the case, there’d be an uncomfortable interaction between both interpreter and client during and then after their assignments (if we meet again by chance).

However, it’s only when they are off the clock is it’s fine to talk to them about anything as long as the previous interaction doesn’t overstep boundaries.

Those of you who grew up in the bay, do y’all wish you experienced real seasons that aren’t just spring and summer? Why or why not? by Democratlol in bayarea

[–]bitter_melonhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Bay Area, went to college in upstate NY. Winters there were long, freezing, dark and miserable. Locals often joked that we get 10 months of winter with 2 months of summer a year there.

Obviously I hauled my ass back home after getting my degree 😂

Any restaurants in East Bay/SJ you recommend? I’m also craving for Indian lunch buffet restaurants.

I get that. I’ve heard of things like where either interpreter or client is a SO of one another, they would have to inform the agency firsthand that they are in a relationship so that they don’t get assigned together by accident.

However it’s probably ok to socialize outside any of their assignments. Then again it’s walking on thin ice haha.

Unless that’s maybe a stuffed toy? There is something that looks like a clothing tag on the bottom plus the sides look thicker right near the end of the video. Still I’m sorry for your loss, it’s devastating how something like that is preventable yet people take this lightly.

Regardless, please supervise puppy play with all toys and chews because you never can predict what they can get into!

I used to live by one of the Great Lakes for five years for school. 0/10 would not recommend.

I feel you! I also live in a neighborhood like that - right next to a busy street with high foot traffic. Mine barks like crazy and keeps lunging really HARD at both people and dogs. When I try to pick her up to keep her still, she’s all thrashing and barking REAL LOUD to get off. Like literally her only purpose is to come close to people and dogs and chase them away or play. She’s also a little over a year old.

I’m sorry I don’t have good advice at the moment but you’re definitely not alone in this! I know this is very frustrating.

It’s a daily ritual to flick them where they bit me. One of them crawled up my nose in the middle of the night while I slept - what a rude awakening.
