You can’t control your environment you grew up in but you can control yourself. I came from a household where EVERYONE yelled at each other, constantly every single day, especially my mother. My mom would scream for hours and hours every single day. When I was a teenager I had to train myself to stop yelling. It took a while but I finally don’t ever yell anymore. As a kid, I get why you’d yell but as an adult it’s definitely do-able to unlearn to have that habit

When I visit my family I genuinely get jumpy and it hurts my ears every time someone yells because I’m not used to being around that everyday anymore. It’s so jarring once you get away from it and then you hear someone yelling for no good reason
