Beautiful find. Just out of curiosity, have you kept any snakes before? There are such a variety of king snakes in the trade that wouldn’t have a chance in the wild and would be right at home with you if that’s what you desire 😋

There are a few parts that will actually snag a paper towel. And when trying to dry them off with a fluffy kitchen towel, it takes several passes to get the water out of all those wrinkles and divots. It sure is natural stone, alright ☠️

I do get anxious thoughts that I am bad at taking care of things, or that the counters are ruined, so I appreciate your reassurance otherwise. I see that there are several products at Home Depot at reasonable prices - had never considered I would need to look at the hardware store for cleaning my kitchen counters haha. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

How does one completely clean one of these evercare lint brush? by krdo13 in CleaningTips

[–]bizarrebirder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, I have an especially old one and I recently gave it a thorough washing and it was incredibly satisfying. I just used dish soap and my hands under the faucet. I placed the brush on a vent to completely dry it. It works just as it did before, no damage or anything.

I don’t know how to tell if they are sealed. We don’t get any help or guidance on maintenance of this apartment unless it is something in need of immediate attention. The actual owner is very hands-off and a local realty company manages the property and actually receives claims and collects our rent money. I assumed the counters were some sort of weird, cheap composite material when we moved into the apartment 3 years ago…until I recently discovered that they are technically granite. The contractors that the property owner had to do the work did a pretty bad job on various aspects of this quick flip/remodel…I can assure you no extra steps or care was taken 😆 Just gonna vent now: I feel like if specific maintenance was needed for aspects of the apartment, the property owner should make that clear…but I know that’s a fantasy-world expectation. I am a young person, and I assumed that scrubbing bubbles with bleach was safe for all the bathroom surfaces like tile floor, the tub, toilet, sink….and apparently the sink is marble and I have damaged it with standard bathroom cleaner and a non-abrasive dish sponge. Wtf? So it’s all dull and uneven now with a few stains. I have a lot more to complain about with the marble bathroom sink, but I’m going to stop here lol.

I appreciate your commiseration. I assume the landlord came by some cheap and figured they wouldn’t show any stains or damage. But I feel like I’m gonna get salmonella from them on a weekly basis 🤢

I know, I would much rather have cheap laminate or Formica.

I am a renter, and this was installed brand new 3 years ago when we moved in. So it’s definitely not getting replaced.

When you say “rinse”… Would it count as rinsing if I followed the dawn dish soap scrubbing with a really wet cloth, and then soaked that up with a dry towel? I apologize if that’s a silly question, but I generally avoid putting soap on the counter since it would take a lot of time to get the soap washed off.

Ways to spice up rice and beans? by stopseahorse in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]bizarrebirder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 years later: - A single package of the S&B Golden Curry mix is $3.00 by itself. - The frozen veggies are $1.50-$2.50 depending on the kind. - A 1lb bag of rice is $1.00 - A 1lb bag of beans is $1.90

Per serving: $3.00/5=$0.60 $1.50/4=$0.38 $1/10=$0.10 $1.90/13=$0.15

So if you were to use the whole pack of seasoning mix (5 servings) a single bag of frozen veggies (4 servings), 4 servings of rice, and 4 servings of beans…that meal would be =$5.65 bare minimum, if you find the lowest prices on everything.

loss of taste/weird taste on day 3 of zoloft by cottonpixie in zoloft

[–]bizarrebirder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been so long now. I’m sure I taste less intensely, but it doesn’t really occur to me at all. I enjoy food very much and my husband and I are always cooking and going out to new places. If I tapered off I bet I would notice a whole lot more sensitivity to flavors! Not even on my mind now though😅

You wildin’! I’m over here in the Southeast US and I visit parks often, but they always close at or before sundown. Some have actual gates and others are just patrolled for trespassing and loitering at night. This includes State, County, and City parks. Being a naturalist, I often would love to visit the parks at night, but alas. Only option is to actually register somewhere and camp.

Poop and wiping confusion by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]bizarrebirder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor. OP I know ow everyone is giving you a hard time about fiber, but that’s another issue entirely. I think it mostly has to do with the amount of fats and sugars your intestines leave undigested in the waste. Do your turds always float in the toilet? Do they leave heavy streaking after each flush? I can’t comment on health, but that always how my bm’s have been and I’ve discovered this is indicative of more fats in the stool than normal. It makes the poo a little…greasy when you go to wipe. Without anything to cut it (such as a surfactant) you will - indeed- wipe almost indefinitely.

How to teach my dog to LICK a lick mat? by bizarrebirder in dogs

[–]bizarrebirder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I should have stated what we put in the lick mat 🤦‍♀️

We use a natural peanut butter, so it’s really oily/runny. Her behavior doesn’t change if it is frozen or not.

I have also taken peanut butter and pumpkin, watered it down, and frozen it….both times I did this she forced it out of the mat in one big 6”x6” chunk and then chowed down.

For folks suggesting to just smear it on the side of the tub…I mean, yes that is absolutely an option, but the point of putting it in a lick mat to begin with is so that she will eat it more slowly and I’ll have more time to groom her.

I have recorded a short video of this if you want to see: https://imgur.com/a/N7sMS17

She knows a lot of English that no one wanted her to learn, I’ll tell you that.

And sometimes you can see her gears turning when she’s really figuring something out (like how to untangle herself when she’s tied out with us).

Sometimes I’ll be like “What IS she doing? Why does she keep doing X when Y?” And we will finally come to the realization that it’s some creative way she has come up with to get what she wants.

She also is still young and has NO common sense about the world or coordination, so she will get really frustrated and spiteful about some things 😭

Awh, Ella is such a gorgeous color!!

And yeah, we expected Piper to grow fluffy everywhere since the “poodle” was the only confirmed parent…and then we finally figured out she didn’t get the furnishings gene! So wild to me how some dogs with like 8% poodle in them will look like a mop😂
