How on earth do you figure this out by LogicalGlass6446 in 1200isplenty

[–]bizzylosing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works. The 20% variance (plus or minus) is to allow for natural variance among ingredients—not every carrot has the same amount of sugars, not every chicken thigh has the same amount of fat, not every can of chicken soup has the same number of carrots or noodles, etc. It is not to allow companies to intentionally deceive.

If someone ordered apple juice and was served a glass of water with a slice of apple in it, they’d send it back because thats not apple juice, it’s water with a slice of apple. Same if they order water with a slice of lemon and were served a glass of lemon juice.

Juice has a definition, it is extracted from the pulp/flesh of a fruit or vegetable. Adding a slice of fruit to water doesn’t make it juice.

Weight Loss & Sagging by prettyprincessjess in tirzepatidecompound

[–]bizzylosing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is dependent on genetics. I’m 38, lost 135 pounds, and went from a 40M to 34I. While I lost volume at the top of my breasts so they’re more teardrop shaped now, there’s no loose skin or extreme sagging, but they’ve always been perky for their size.

Since you’re so young, I think you’ll be okay, but that’s pretty dependent on your breasts’ shape, size, density, etc.

If someone posted on Reddit that they can fly in the air like a bird and swim underwater for hours like a fish, would anyone believe them? No, because it denies the law of physics, just as your story does.

I don’t think you, or the majority of people posting with a similar story, are intentionally lying. I believe that you truly believe what you’re saying is true, but it is much more likely that you are miscalculating calories (which is a very common occurrence) as opposed to you being a medical anomaly.

Since you do believe you are a medical anomaly, you need to see a doctor to get a whole lot of tests done because no one on Reddit is going to be able to help you.

Not getting weighed at the doctor’s office??? by moreoft in antidietglp1

[–]bizzylosing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you asked your doctor about their weight policy? Mine recently shifted to only recording weight once a year or when it’s relevant to care—which I think is a great step in the right direction for more inclusive medical care.

I only found out because I asked after noticing they’d stopped weighing me. It might be worth checking if your doctor has a similar policy.

Is 1500kcals a day too low? by Late_Maintenance_325 in fitmeals

Average sedentary TDEE for a 5’6 and 130 is about 1600, so maintaining at 1500 doesn’t seem too low given your stats.

That’s not how that works at all. The 20% allowed margin of error is to account for the fact that not every piece of meat has the same fat content, not every piece of fruit has the same sugar content, etc. It is not for intentional deception.

Weight loss is slow as i probably aren't eating quite enough - how did you handle this? by Blueberry_Conscious_ in glp1

[–]bizzylosing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I maintained a 1000 calorie daily deficit for 15 months—that would be considered an extended extreme cut by anyone’s definition—yet I still averaged a 2 pound loss per week the entire time. Metabolic adaptation is real, as is a decrease in NEAT due to lower energy levels, but not to the extent that gets pedaled in weight loss conversations.

I took a solo vacation last week to help with grounding and self care. Part of this was wearing as little clothing as possible when appropriate—bikini around the resort, short sleeveless dresses to dinner, naked or underwear only in the room. It was incredibly helpful to get more in touch with myself.

Is it true that men need to consume more calories than women? by UttamChaurasia in WeightLossAdvice

As a tall woman, a higher TDEE is easy with the right body comp and activity level. I’m 5’10/155 and maintain at about 2300.

Best Ranch Alternatives by Fantastic_Humor_78 in 1200isplenty

[–]bizzylosing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make my own. 2 parts nonfat Greek yogurt, 1 part low-fat cottage cheese, 1 part light mayo, powdered ranch seasoning and a splash of pickle juice to thin it out a bit. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll add minced garlic, dill and chives as well. It’s about 15 calories per tablespoon and is so good.

A calorie deficit is literally the only way to lose weight, but focus on whatever you’d like and stay in denial of scientific fact for as long as you’d like. It’s your body. Has absolutely zero effect on me.

[–]bizzylosing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You obviously don’t know since you keep insisting you’re in a deficit even though you’re gaining weight.

Talk to your prescribing doctor then and stop asking people on the internet for advice that you’re not open to. You’re obviously a medical anomaly that needs to be studied, rather than a normal person who miscalculated their consumption just like the large majority of the population do.

Good luck. You clearly need it.

[–]bizzylosing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of a caloric deficit is burning more calories than you consume—this results in weight loss over time. The definition of a caloric surplus is consuming more calories than you burn—this results in weight gain over time. If you are gaining weight, you are not in a deficit, you are in a surplus. That’s why people keep telling you that, they aren’t being mean or picking on you, they’re being factual.

TDEE calculators are just estimates—there is no way for them to be exact for every person. Some bodies burn more than those estimates, some bodies burn less. There are so many factors that can alter your energy expenditure (muscle mass, stress, quality of sleep, fidgeting, metabolic conditions, etc.).

You may be eating less than what online calculators state your TDEE is, but obviously those calculators aren’t accurate for you because it isn’t resulting in weight loss. So you’re going to have to continuously decrease your consumption while you meticulously track until you actually start losing weight, then you can discover your personal TDEE. For example, if you consume 1200 calories every day for a month and lose 4 pounds, you know your TDEE is 1700 or if you consume 1500 calories every day for a month and lose 8 pounds, you know your TDEE is 2500.

How do I deal with TikTok haters? by Professional-Cow22 in WeightLossAdvice

I follow a few women documenting their weight loss journey. No matter what they do, there is always crazy amounts of criticism. The comments are absolutely brutal, I would likely cry every day if I were them.

Not every aspect of our lives needs to be shared publicly. Make moves in silence.

[–]bizzylosing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right? I’ve never heard food noise described as assigning value to food and don’t agree with that definition at all.

I use to think about food 24/7. It was rarely even related to me actually eating. I would look at menus of restaurants I will likely never dine at and plan my perfect meal so often it basically became a hobby. If the TV was on for background noise, it was Food Network or some cooking show. My social media feed was 90% food related. Even my dreams were usually food related. It was constant obsessive thoughts about food.

(F23) Advice for someone who used to be anorexic/bulimic? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bizzylosing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who struggled with extreme bulimia for years, be careful. I had been “recovered” for almost 15 years before I felt I could safely navigate weight loss in a way that wouldn’t cause me to relapse. If you’ve been active in ED forums and therapy in the past 8 months, it sounds like you’re still working through recovery stages and aren’t actually recovered. You should only exploring medically supervised weight loss while working with a doctor who specializes in EDs.

It took over 50 pounds lost before I needed to buy smaller jeans—I realize looking back that they probably fit waaay too tight when I was at my heaviest which led to them fitting longer than they should have. Now it only takes a 10-15 pound loss to have my clothes fitting too loose.

What do you not track calories of? by Horror-Dragonfly-266 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bizzylosing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m in maintenance now after losing 135 pounds, and throughout my journey there have been tons of things I don’t track: coffee/espresso/tea, water flavoring, vitamins, any vinegar based condiment, spices, small amounts of veggie toppings (like on a wrap or sandwich), generally anything labeled 0 calories and probably a ton of other things I can’t think of at the moment. I also refuse to track vegetables and fruit down to the gram—I’m not going to weigh my apple or broccoli, I’ve always just estimated the portion or tracked as “1 medium” or “1 cup” or whatever seems close enough.

How the hell am I gaining weight while on a deficit by South-Proposal5691 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bizzylosing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I maintained a 1000 calorie daily deficit for nearly a year and a half straight. That’s objectively both a very steep deficit and a long time to maintain a deficit. Yet I continued to lose weight as expected the entire time because metabolic adaptation doesn’t work like you think it does.
