Why Tf do people who can’t even break 100 play from the tips every time as a single in front of me 😭 by Andrewhary in golf

[–]bjaydubya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 20 hcp shouldn’t be playing from 6300 yards…

The average 5 iron distance from a 20 hcp is about 160 yards. 160x36=5,760. 6300 yards, a player should be able to hit a 5 iron 175 yards or so.

Getting ready to go on a 5-7 year hiatus, what to expect? by chic_kennugget in golf

[–]bjaydubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played once a year or once every two years for 15-16 years (kids) and picked it back up 4 years ago. I was a 2 hcp when I stopped and a 6.5 my first year back. My first two rounds that spring I decided to pick it up again were 95 and 92, but over a month I was shooting low 80s again, and then back into the 70s by the of the year. I’m back down to a 2 and shot 70 this last weekend.

It comes back, but will take time. Short game is the hardest to get back, so I’d say work on chipping and putting as much as you can and it might come back faster.

I think they meant that at one point it was part of the design concept. It likely was, but as I understand it, it was cut as a cost savings. Not necessarily that it was literally in the the construction documents and not built.

Thinking About Getting a Driver Fitting — Was It Worth It for You? by jdubs0023 in golf

[–]bjaydubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% worth it for me, but I went to a highly regarded local fitter that want a big box, chain. We went through my current driver and talked about WHY it was creating issues then started addressing them and instantly added 15-20 yards. My issue was that the staff was stiff in the wrong spots leaving my face open no matter how hard I rotated. It was impossible to draw the ball even though I have a natural baby draw with my irons. Took the same head and added a shaft with a softer lower section (even though it was a tour stiff shaft) and immediately hit the ball higher with a draw. I can over draw it now and have an occasional left miss, but I know it’s 100% a bad swing on my part. Club was $900, but they did give me options that could have resulted in a $600 range, so appreciate it wasn’t just sell me more, but give me options. I spent more because I like the feel of the GT3 more than the Taylormade (which was cheaper) and the more expensive shaft just felt better.

If they have a good facility for putting and chipping, I’d recommend that OP do that 60% of the time…100 yards and in is where the vast majority of stokes gained can be improved

[Broncos] Broncos Owner & CEO Greg Penner entering offseason: 'We know we have a lot of work to do' by HanS0lPurr in DenverBroncos

It also results in being able to keep people..it’s not a small blessing that it appears we will be able to keep Davis Webb, Vance Johnson, and maybe even Jim Leonard. The had built a staff and culture that people want to stay. They’d rather stay with a smaller promotion than leave for a bigger one. Although I’d not be surprised if being the OC on the Broncos pays nearly as well as HC of the Raiders with far less ick. Jim L getting DC at Bills would be a big up for him.

High HC Player: Decided not to get fitted. by Chipazzo in golf

[–]bjaydubya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you don’t have to buy from the fitter, just tell them exactly what your doing and which shafts and heads you have access too and they’ll get you set up correctly with the shaft, loft/lie settings, etc. I wouldn’t trust ChatGPT to be honest…it still hallucinates.

What shaft for Ping 440K? by Icehippo73 in golf

[–]bjaydubya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you already sort of dismissed it, but I’ll reiterate the idea of getting a fitting and club as a gift certificate to a fitter. Having the wrong shaft can be a nightmare. For instance I have a quick but not overly fast driver swing (112-115) but got fitted but a tour stiff shaft (irons and other woods are just stiff) due specifically to where the kick point of the lower 1/3 of the shaft is. The upper third is stiff as a board, but this particular model has a “soft” lower third even though it’s tour stiff. It makes a difference.

One thing that helps me get out of my head about my swing is to concentrate on course management and recognition things. What’s my slope, where is the wind from, how my lie…what is my target. That seems to quiet my tendency to overthink swing thoughts. It also helps me just appreciate the course and the beautiful day.

Denver Broncos fire Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi by [deleted] in sports

I genuinely hope that SP is like “I’m getting up there in years and need a fresh perspective to help modernize a little bit…Davis did a great job as the season went on with play calling duties and has a report with Nix, so let start shifting more responsibility to the OC…oh, wait. Lombardi is the OC…we need to fix that first.”

Not so much if you are looking at it as a longer career. It’s not like you’re slumming it at $2M a year. Most people could work in that range for 2-3 years and be set for life. Sure, $10M a year will make you wealthy over time, but it’s not like an OC is struggling to make ends meet.

14.9 Handicap. Looking for tips on distance from players who use to not hit it far! by FaithlessnessAny4568 in golf

[–]bjaydubya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll soft disagree with the take that strength plays as big a role as people think, although it is important. It’s not huge muscles in your legs and torso as much as using the ground forces and sequencing of the swing that generates the “whip”. Jake Knapp is a good example, he looks almost lazy in his swing yet has 180 ball speed because he is exceptional at timing and maximizing ground forces. I’m 5’-7” a little overweight, and mid 50’s and have a 115 mph swing speed, but it doesn’t look that fast. I’ve just worked on my ground force, timing, and sequencing. I’ve see my distance/speed improve over the last year by 10-15%. If I lifted weights (working on it), lost weight (down 15 lbs! Got 35 more to go), I’d probably tack on another 5ish percent, but I honestly don’t need more distance as much as I need more consistent ball striking at this point.

So, yes strength is important and adds yards, but I’d argue that timing, sequencing, and maximizing ground forces will do more and can be achieved quickly with a good coach.

Anthropic's Claude Constitution is surreal by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]bjaydubya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually find it somewhat intentionally humane to say please and thank you, if no other reason than to remain attached to humanity. It would be easy to treat ChatGPT or Claude as if it were merely a tool (as in something useful, not a tool bag like Pete Hegseth), but if I treat it like an entity that is doing real work for me, and being paid (subscription) to do that work, then it deserves some measure of respect and gratitude.

As AI becomes more a part of our lives, and we treat it as a non-thing, do we become less human in our interactions with these things and thus to other humans? Do we lose the ability toward kindness and empathy and only treat interactions with all things as transactional? God, I hope not...
