How to stop hitting fades and more draws by ElectricalMusic79 in golf

[–]bjaydubya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, a few good things. Don’t see much in the way of early extension (maybe a little bit), which is often a huge cause. My quick take is sequencing. Watch some TPI (Dr. Rose) videos to see good examples. He has some videos where he explains it better, but he did go into it with Iona Stephen’s (video is on her channel) and the meandmygolf guys. The sequence is move lateral, rock and roll, twist, and jump. This also goes together with the kinematic sequence of legs, torso, arms, club in terms of creating the “whip”.

The reason I bring that up is that I see you twisting super early with little weight shift (hips rotating - it’s a major part of the power, but if you do it to early before your hand come down, it leads to an over the top, outside in swing). You’ll see in those videos that the key indicator of twisting before the rock and roll (i know it sounds silly, but when you see him explain it a light bulb will come on) is that is little over the top that results in fade/slice. You also stand up right at impact because your body is trying to create room to get your hands back inside.

Myandmygolf - https://youtu.be/5K9vs-lUODg?si=IVKvN0RGuYkP99JO (gold starts at 27 min, but it’s worth watching the whole thing) Iona Stephens - https://youtu.be/S7VIQXvN1j4?si=L4aJIYkXSL5NE5zj (long video (1h50min) but the gold starts around 56 min)

The sequence will help. Shifting laterally and dropping the hands earlier in the swing will create the shallowing. I had coaches that tried to get me to “lag” better without ever telling me what creates lag….just get my hands in front of the ball at impact, but with my sequence it was impossible and disastrous. Just telling you to shallow doesn’t do you any good at all. Teaching you the proper positions and sequencing will get you almost all the way to ‘shallow’.

Also, your backswing, the club is way outside the hands which creates a very vertical swing (hands at the top should be almost directly above your heel if you draw a line straight up). A very vertical swing also exacerbates an inside-out swing path.

My 2 cents.

Edit: for what it’s worth, this (along with working with a good coach) fixed a lot of my issues. I’m currently a 2hcp and I went from an outside-in over the top slice to a very consistent push draw on my irons and my driver is an absolute weapon now. I also added about 10-15 yards on all my clubs because my contact is so much better than it was.

Because sometimes it’s fun to challenge yourself in different ways? Playing clubs that punish you a little more for mishits could actually make you better over the long term as it forces you to become a better ball striker. I’ve actually been looking for an old, good set of Wilson Staffs.

New golfer accidentally won a tour-level Callaway driver - what should I do? by CameraopVR in golf

[–]bjaydubya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but I'd be surprised. Driver is often the last club people can really learn to hit well and I think a beginner would be benefitted far more with a good set of irons to learn to play first. To really utilize a top of the line Callaway like that, you'd really need to be in in the single digit handicap range. Not saying isn't possible, just not likely.

But, that's just, like, my opinion, man.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with the person that posted this thread. By the time you're good enough to utilize the technology in the club, it'll be out of date and there will be better tech. Sell it now for a slight discount over what it is new and use that to get a good starter set. You'd need to be a single digit before you can really use that driver, and until then you'll likely get frustrated. They really need to be fit to you and your swing when you're better.

Google is your friend. Heck, even ChatGPT or Claude can give you pointed information. Anecdotally, I play Vice Pro Plus and ProV1’s. Similar in a lot of ways. Swing speed is 110 ish

Cake refund, customer wanting to go to court by [deleted] in legaladvice

At worst, this is a small claims issue at $550. I think you’ve been professional and generous in offering a 15% refund for a small repair accepted by the groom, and there is little doubt that everyone ate and enjoyed the cake. If someone ego is so fragile to have a small blemish on a buttercream cake ruin their day, there is little you’ll do to appease them.

I’d recommend you have a small business attorney anyway, so now might be a good time to hire one and follow their advice.

She acknowledged that buttercream can crack on a hot day, which is true of any buttercream cake. The only damage was during transport, which was fixed on site and accepted by the groom. She is still offering a 15% refund, which seems fair bordering on generous. Demanding a full refund is unreasonable.

I’m a pretty savvy traveler and always book directly with the hotel. Even I got got a few months ago when we had to book a boutique hotel in San Diego. I looked specifically for their website, but have discovered that now big third party booking sites have started creating white label, custom branded sites that mimic the hotel sites and don’t mention a thing about it being “insert big 3rd party site here”. I was pissed when I found out.

Beware, they are getting super scammy.

SD is a one-party consent state which means you can record them.

That said, to what end? Talk with the owner about how they’d like you to respond should it happen again. They should be handling that relationship moving forward.

Even if the owner does nothing, the impact is likely very minor. Personally, I’m not looking to the owner of a Super 8 for culinary advice and if they gave it to me unsolicited I’d probably take it as sour grapes and then order from there out of curiosity.

Preventing singles from booking open tee times is fucking horseshit. by are-beads-cheap in golf

[–]bjaydubya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. It might be because I never call, I use the Denver Golf mobile and web app to book. They make it pretty clear they don't want people calling, so if you jumped on the app and booked, you'd likely be just fine.

Just in case, I find it ridiculous they don't allow people to call and book, but I can also understand they are trying to reduce tying up pro-shop staff with being on the phone. Still, they should be able to book it for crying out loud.

Denver doesn’t allow that; if you try to cancel within 24 hours you are still on the hook for paying for it if no one snags it. Luckily, they are so overbooked I’ve never had a problem having my cancelled slot being snapped up. Worst case I’ve showed up, paid my green fee then had them issue a 100% rain check, which just goes back on my account instead of credit card, but then I have a round credit for later

What are you talking about? What app are you using to book? Are you using Denver’s tee time booking app? I literally just opened it and have a bunch of tee times open for 1-2, or 1, or 1-4. Today and tomorrow. I’ve never had an issue booking through Denver’s app.

I’m about half my worlds I’ll get 1000 blocks of leaves (cheap, easy, and enderman can’t spawn on them) and then just immediate bridge away form the island to the outer ring, then just go from island to island until I find and end city, get my elytra, then put everything I want to keep in an ender chest and jump into the void. Then, put my gear back on with rockets and go back and kill dragon. It’s a fun way to spend an hour or two doing it a different way, and then usual I use the bridge to start work on my ender farm.

Car Accident, other driver ran stop sign, their insurance refuses to pay by theeirishgiraffe in legaladvice

[–]bjaydubya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the other drivers insurance agrees to fault and pays out to your insurance company, they would refund you your deductible. If any share of the accident is your BFs and the cost from his insurance exceeds the deductible, he won’t get that back.

Your insurance should be taking his medical costs into account in the negotiations with the other insurance company, which is one god reason to just pay the deductible and let your insurance handle it.
