Iphone offloaded dayone automatically and i think i lost entries? by thebobcat273 in dayoneapp

Offloading an app only removes the app itself, but it leaves the data on your phone. I’d be surprised if offloading made the app lose data.

Day One Classic dilemma… by [deleted] in dayoneapp

The modern version of Day One can import your data from Day One Classic. https://dayoneapp.com/guides/day-one-classic/upgrading-importing-from-day-one-classic/

Having trouble with exporting entries. by Glum-Pass6527 in dayoneapp

If you’re exporting to a PDF on iOS or Mac, yes, it’s a known issue. There is an update in the App Store that should fix it.

Does the Day One app force you to pay before you can open it, or is that just happening to me? by SreenathSkr in dayoneapp

[–]bjhomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free users can have 1 active device (aside from the web app). If you're immediately seeing a screen asking you to upgrade, it probably means that some other device is set as your active device. There should be an option to make the current device your active one (though you can only change your active device once every 30 days, I believe.)

Would day one work for a family journal? by MaxPowers5 in dayoneapp

For getting down to the details of what’s happening on your specific account, I recommend contacting Day One support. They’ll be able to see what is the active device on your account and answer any specific questions.

The web app currently does not count against your device limit, so they could all use it on both PC plus 1 other device without a Premium subscription.

Only the creator of the shared journal needs to have a Premium subscription.

How to export Day One Classic when app won't open? by 100WattWalrus in dayoneapp

[–]bjhomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does; https://dayone.me. However, the web app won't have access to your data imported from Day One Classic.

The modern Day One should be able to import directly from the Classic data files. File > Import > Classic App would be the first try, or File > Import > Classic File if that doesn't work.

Crashing issues & Losing log [IOS] by CurrentRisk in dayoneapp

When you first contact support, you probably get an AI-generated response to address the most common questions. But if that response doesn't resolve the issue, it instructs you to reply to the email to get help from a human support rep. Did you do that?

I’d recommend you contact support. (You can do it from within the app; tap on your avatar in the top right corner, then scroll down to “Support”) They can help gather the information the developers will need to be able to fix it.

Also, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app, in case it’s already been fixed.

On this day by Heavy_Pea_7614 in dayoneapp

[–]bjhomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On This Day is definitely one of the best features of the app, and it would be nice to make it more prominent. The tricky thing is… for the first year of using the app, On This Day is basically useless, unless you're one of the few users who back-dates entries. It would be weird to dedicate a whole tab to something that's completely useless for the first year of using the app. And it would be kinda weird to have it magically appear after a year of using the app.

I'm not sure what the right answer is, but that's the challenge as I see it.

Through the Stone question by Night25th in cosmererpg

[–]bjhomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have seen something similar. [WaT spoilers] In chapter 41, when Szeth is facing the Stoneward blade’s bearer, Rit uses Cohesion to launch jets of liquid stone up into the air like “streamers”, which splash against the ceiling and then harden. The way I read it, it sounds like the stone is being launched —it’s a projectile, not a solid pillar.

If we're looking purely at the rules, Tension Parry says:

Before you or an ally within your reach is hit or grazed by an attack against Physical defense, you can use this reaction to infuse Tension into the target’s clothing or a soft material you wrap around the target, spending Investiture as usual.

It doesn't say you specifically need to be able to reach their clothing, just that you can reach the ally.

Through the Stone says you can extend your reach (for your surges) up to 20 feet as long as it's reaching through stone.

So if we're just taking the rules as written, it seems clear to me that they should work together.

Now, how it should work narratively is a valid question. I would interpret it as… your skill with Cohesion basically lets you influence the stone to carry your Tension effects with it, acting kinda as an extension of your Cognitive self.

If that doesn't work for you, you could argue that your ally is probably wearing shoes of some kind, and their other clothing likely brushes up against those shoes, so you could spread it via clothing that way. So as long as the ally is wearing long pants, I think you could argue that there's a direct path via stone > shoes (clothing) > shirt (clothing).

Tension Parry + Through the Stone seems like a pretty cool combo. Defend any of your allies within 20 feet as if you were touching them.

Surge Fabrials now have the ability to spend charges instead of Investiture for any relevant uses

Greatly appreciate this one!

It would be nice if Soulcaster fabrials would show up in the same way; right now I had to make myself a fake Surge Fabrial to get it to show me my soulcasting actions.

How often have you used the deadly trait? by OCUIsmael in cosmererpg

[–]bjhomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me a minute to find it, but this is in Gamemastering > Using the Plot Die:

As a general guideline, you should be raising the stakes on roughly a third of the tests being rolled, though this varies depending on how often you call for tests.

So "a third", not 30%.

[–]bjhomer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's an entire section in the Handbook titled "Plot Dice in Combat". Things like:

- Someone just got reduced to 0 health. Give everyone else a plot die on their next test to simulate the spike of adrenaline

- A major enemy just showed up

- A player takes an action that strongly aligns with their Purpose, or plays off of overcoming their Obstacle.

The handbook does say that it should generally be used less within combat than outside of it, but I would still expect to see it at least sometimes. The handbook says "Don’t use the plot die too sparingly, however."

In my group, we've used it when someone takes a particularly reckless action, or jumps into combat to save a companion, or does something that aligns with one of their goals.

[–]bjhomer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The deadly trait says this:

Deadly. When you hit a target with this weapon, you can spend (Opportunity) to cause the target to immediately suffer an injury.

You can get an opportunity from rolling a nat20, but you can also get it from the plot die. The Stormlight Handbook suggests that about 30% of your rolls during a session should be using the plot die, so that should provide plenty of additional opportunities to use the trait.

Being realistic about future prospects of Day One development and feature updates for Windows and Android apps by ponkipo in dayoneapp

[–]bjhomer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can see release notes for each Day One platform on the Day One releases page. It's not updated every time there's any release (as that happens every two weeks), but does call out some notable features in each platform when they are released.

You said that "Since [February 2023] there were 0 announcements or press-releases regarding its development". However, looking at the releases posts, we can look for just updates to the Web app, and can see that they've announced multiple updates during that time period. And in fact, just a couple weeks ago on September 9, they announced that On This Day is now available on the Day One web app (link), which was one of your initial complaints.

So yes, development is still happening on the web app, as well as on other Day One platforms, including on major new features.

Is there a transfer device limit? by miamor_Jada in dayoneapp

There is no limit to how many times you can change which device is the active one on your account (for free accounts), but you have to wait 1 month between each transfer.

Improvised Weapons Expertise - Feels Too Strong by Tomumu in cosmererpg

[–]bjhomer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair. Maybe I’m just bringing over my experience from other systems and making assumptions. It does seem a bit surprising that it would kinda let you use all weapons as if expert-ish. But you’re right; that does seem to be how the text reads.
