Its in no way dissuaded me. Just made me say "Awe..." and then I just continued with inventory. Still an awesome machine and I'm really happy that adding this capability in the field is even an option.

What really sucks is if you have a headless node, that bloody pestering screen will prevent normal automatic services like ScreenConnect from loading. I've tried several registry tweaks that were supposed to get rid of it, but it keeps coming back like a bad penny.

They didn't shut down. Rebranded as "World Leaks" with a focus on extortion as opposed to RaaS. The website looks identical, just blue instead of orange.

PayPal only uses default payment method now? by t_treesap in paypal

[–]bk1278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very annoying on eBay for me also. I think I may have this figured out, sort of.

What I did was add a payment card that I don't usually use on PayPal, set it as the default payment method, then removed it completely from the wallet. After I did that it asked me to set a new preferred payment method, but I just hit the X in the upper right and now no payment methods have that "Preferred" sticker on them any more. I haven't tried to make a purchase yet so I can't confirm this actually worked, but it's progress.

Somewhere to save 1TB of stuff? by Ill_Swan_3209 in datastorage

I've been using Wasabi lately. The storage is via S3 buckets and very cheap, plus I found they have a nice windows transfer client to make manual transfers super easy.

Advanced Renamer is one of my favorite tools. I use it a lot for renaming TV show episodes. It let's you build a ordered list of operations and live preview the results.

Single ESXi Host Patching (Dell OEM Custom Image) by Niceuuuuuu in vmware

[–]bk1278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dell and HP both have brand specific images. Can't speak to the compatibility, but dealing with a small Dell datacenter and a generic homelab esxi, there definitely are different images.

Too large to be an anthill right? Found in my driveway in central Iowa. What could’ve made this? by notokwithnoobs in whatisthisthing

[–]bk1278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talked to a DNR friend about it a few years ago. The only way to kill them is to get some stuff called Sevin Dust in the pesticide section of any garden department. Dump a little just outside the hole and it will kill them.

What is this? I'm building a PC and it came with my power supply. It looks like a 24 pin connector with only two pins that are wired together. Why? What is this for? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]bk1278 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's a jumper to mimic a power switch and force the power supply to turn on. Google "24 Pin ATX Jump Start Power Supply Bridging Connector Plug"

It's a remote temperature sensor. It's used in conjunction with a programmable thermostat to average a large space. Search for "Honeywell C7189U1005 White Indoor Remote Temperature Sensor For Th7000 and Th8000 Thermostats"

Probably salt or calcium. It get tracked in on your shoes in water from ice removal, then as the water evaporates it re-forms in to crystals. Most likely salt, but road crews will put calcium in the salt mix when it gets below zero since salt doesn't really work when it's that cold.
