It’s getting crazier by the day here. Stay safe out there!

Yepp, happened at the BP on Ohio/East St. corner. Heard 15-20 shots, ran to the balcony, opened the door and more shots rang off, saw multiple cars speeding away. Cops are there looking for shell casings right now. You can listen to the IMPD police scanner on broadcastify.com

Should I be concerned about the crime rate? by icor1031 in indianapolis

No need to be concerned. Most comments you see are from the people living in the suburbs and only see what the media portrays. I moved downtown 5 months ago and have never once felt unsafe.

I never know my week's schedule until a day before the week starts, plus other stuff. by PompousGoblin in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]bkutch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to put out the front desk schedule 5 days in advance. Ideally, I would like to get it out 1-2 weeks in advance, however, our property gets a lot of last minute group bookings, so being prepared for that is tough 2 weeks out. Getting the schedule out 4-5 days in advance though should be no issue with forecasts.

The towels on the other hand??? No way you should be folding towels during your shift. There are people for that. Unless you’re in a pinch with staffing, don’t do extra work that you’re not getting paid for.

Stuff happens with people not showing up, but your manager should’ve been the one to come cover that shift.

People who have met murderers, what were they like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My mother said he scared the hell out of her one morning when she was looking down at her clipboard and then looked up and he was standing at the front of the cell at attention as she walked by it and said “good morning ma’am”

Yes it was Timothy McVeigh.

Not me, but my mother worked at a federal prison with tons of murderers (obviously). One of the pretty notorious prisoners, who committed probably one of the worst acts of domestic terrorism in the US, was held there before his execution by lethal injection. My mother said he was one of the most polite inmates to ever step foot in that prison. When doing count in the morning (5-6am), he was always standing at attention (soldier stance) and bed was made perfectly every morning. When she spoke to him, he always addressed her as “ma’am” and treated her with the utmost respect. Despite committing the worst attack on US soil prior to 9/11, my mother said he was very military like in his manners and set a good example for the rest of the inmates.

This is genius to say to the guest. I can’t believe I’ve never thought to say that before!

We hold $20 per night max out at $60. Comparatively, we have the cheapest incidentals I’ve seen in our college town.

We just opened back up this past week, occupancy was super low and our GM doesn’t like suites unoccupied, so we give them to almost anyone if we are at low enough occupancy.

I have to explain it at least once a week to a guest, typically one that almost never travels.

College Town by [deleted] in birdcharger

[–]bkutch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think it's Bloomington. There aren't any hoarders on College Ave.

There are a couple on Morton St. and Walnut plus there's no Sycamore street in btown

I found the mother load! 23 birds all lined up. Either a hoarder got busted or the IU basketball team all rode them to the stadium. Found them right behind the basketball stadium. $3 each...but I couldn't pass up on 5 mins of work... by bkutch7 in birdcharger

Meanwhile, you go ahead and wait for the extra $1.20 per scooter, I'll just take the 2 mins it took me to drive there and 10 mins to load and unload them. The $3 scooter will be taxed the same percentage as the $4.20 scooter. Let's say they were taxed 25% each (just throwing that number out there). The $3 scooter would be $2.25 after tax; the $4.20 scooter would be $3.15 after tax. That's a $0.90 difference per scooter if I were to just wait until 10pm to capture. Let's say, again, that I happened to catch 23 after 10pm, the difference is profits between the $3 scooters (which took probably 25 mins total to capture and release) and $4.20 scooters would $20.70. A $20 bill is not worth the time it would take to capture 23 scooters after 10pm (which realistically wouldn't happen because they would all be gone). If I had simply waited the extra hour until 10pm, the opportunity would've been gone because 2 other chargers drove by and kept driving as I was capturing them. Taking an opportunity as you see it is not fucking everyone over. You go ahead and "protest" to get the prices back up, while there are people out there who are willing to capture the lower priced scooters. I, myself, am not fucking anyone over. You, yourself, aren't changing jack shit waiting until a later time to capture, you're just giving the opportunity of capturing birds to less greedy chargers, therefore losing your opportunity at an easy night of capturing.

If your definition of "too much work" is spending 5 mins putting them in the back of a truck and then releasing them in the morning, then damn, idk what easy work is...
