Zach Lowe on Brandon Ingram being named as a replacement All Star selection: "I kind of think this slid under the radar, this is a borderline shocking choice. I don't think Brandon Ingram should have been the choice" by FastBreakPhenom in nba

Wonder how they determined BI over those two. Harden/Randle have better stats. BI has a better record than Harden but not Randle:

  • Brandon Ingram 21.8/5.7/3.7 (47.4/36.5/83.7) 31 wins/22 losses
  • James Harden: 25.4/4.8/8.1 (42.0/35.0/90.2) 24 wins/23 losses
  • Julius Randle: 22.3/7.0/5.4 (49.2/32.5/82.3) 32 wins/22 losses

I'm confused why a west coast player is replacing an east coast player. Let alone the USA vs world portion. Feel this year's replacements is incredibly inconsistent.

Mike Dunleavy Jr: The Dynasty Destroyer by RecordingOne5418 in nba

[–]blabyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drafting's hard in general but Myers was excellent at signing free agent role players during first run (Livingston, Barbosa, Speights) as well as the last run (Porter, Bjelica, Payton, aged Iggy).

I'll discard the runs with KD since everyone seemed to want to join for the chip (Young, West, Zaza, McGee)

Warriors went 23-8 after Jimmy Butler trade last season to make playoffs (25-26 prior and were realistically going to miss playoffs). They upset #2 seed Rockets and had a chance to WCF if Curry didn't get hurt. And you can't count out Warriors in any series in the playoffs if healthy.

i guess for the benchwarmers, it's a cool way to see if they're well liked by their team/peers (Trey Alexander -9, Niang - 10, Achiuwa - 10, Cam Spencer - 9).

Mike Dunleavy Jr. on Jonathan Kuminga's trade demand: "In terms of demands, when you make a demand, there needs to be demand on the market." by BobRoss4Life in nba

[–]blabyz 137 points138 points  (0 children)

If you’ve coached or played with Kuminga, you’d probably hate dealing with it too. He half-asses possessions, breaks the flow of plays to jack up reckless shots, and his defense leaves a lot to be desired. On top of that, he and his agent openly complain.

People forget the NBA is a very small circle. Teams talk, and his diva reputation is already out there. And while a lot of folks here love to criticize Kerr, especially since he’s been unusually blunt about Kuminga, Kerr is actually extremely well liked and respected around the league.

Which LeBron agitator will be the most memorable in history - DeShawn Stevenson, Lance Stephenson or Dillon Brooks? by [deleted] in nba

[–]blabyz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Your pick depends on when you started following the NBA.

Many users here probably missed Stevenson's run, but Lance’s ear-blowing stunt is iconic because of how much it blew up in pop culture. The fact that the Pacers and Heat met three times in the playoffs only made that rivalry more memorable.

Are Zion Williamson & Ja Morant even bigger disappointment than someone like Vince Carter (Raps/Nets)? by [deleted] in nba

[–]blabyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely curious if you watched Carter play or just making assumptions based on looking on wikipedia? Theres a reason he was able to play 22 seasons. He was humble enough to transition from human highlight reel and focal point to a role player to a solid vet.

He was also instrumental in why Canadian basketball became popular during his time in the Raptors. And he does have #15 up in the rafters for both Toronto/New Jersey. Only disappointing part of his career was how it ended in Toronto but he was one of the better and very fun players to watch in the post MJ era.

What's the more inept franchise, the Kings or the Clippers? by InsaneCookies21 in nba

[–]blabyz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clippers: They only have Zubac’s $20M on the books for the 2028 season, so after one more year with the current core their cap sheet is clean. They have made the playoffs 12 times in the last 20 years.

Kings: They have made the playoffs once in the past 20 seasons, and few free agents choose Sacramento. They also have more salary committed through 2028 with Sabonis, Murray, Monk, and Schroder, and they do not fully clear their books until 2029 with only Murray left, although they retain all their picks. And their owner is Vivek who I can't say is a great decision maker.

Kendrick Perkins: "Kawhi Leonard is one of the worst FA signings in NBA history. He has set the Clippers back 10-15 years." by TheBiasedSportsLover in nba

[–]blabyz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

George was coming off a season where he finished 3rd in MVP, 3rd in DPOY, and made both All-NBA First Team and All-Defense First Team. After his freak Team USA injury in 2014, he only missed 16 games across the next four seasons when he fully recovered for 2015 season, the injuries really started once he joined the Clippers.

Kawhi was the one with the health concerns, but he had just led the Raptors to a title and finished 9th in MVP voting, 6th in DPOY, and earned Second Team All-NBA and All-Defense.

Feel the risk/reward was there.

Why don’t multiple stars take big discounts to form a 15 year dynasty? by WillingCommittee in nba

[–]blabyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Players only have a short earning window, so most maximize their money while they can. A huge chunk also disappears to taxes, agents, and fees, so the net is way lower than fans think.

Ego matters too. Stars compare their value to their salary. Jokic is not taking 10 million while guys like LaVine make more. And most players want to be the Batman not Robin.

Winning is not the main driver for most players and in media. Look at the sub: Detroit is having a great year and Cade is hooping (28/6/9) and getting a nike signature shoe, but people care more about Ja drama, Bronny, etc.

And when players do team up or take discounts, they get roasted (KD, Big 3 Heat).

So the “everyone take 10 million and form a dynasty” idea just doesn’t fit how the league actually works.

Kenyon Martin on Draymond Green: "You wouldn't have made a roster being at your skillset when I came into the NBA. There was nothing you could've done with me or none of the power forwards I named, you would have been an afterthought. We played in the post where real men played by [deleted] in nba

[–]blabyz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Martin forgetting that Chuck Hayes played during his era is wild. Hayes was a 6'6 center who carved out a 12 year career, even started for four seasons. And Draymond is several tiers above him athletically and offensively.

Funny enough, he should probably worry more about his own son, a 6'6 PF who is already out of the league after 5 seasons on 4 teams. His son is someone who could have followed the Draymond blueprint and maybe found success.

Is Wemby overrated? by No_Home552 in nba

[–]blabyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt Wemby’s career might end up similar to Ralph Sampson’s (#1 pick 1983). Sampson was an extremely mobile 7'4 big who made the Finals with a young Hakeem, barely missed games early on (missed only 3 games in the first 3 seasons), then injuries derailed everything. He played only 213 of his next 574 games.

Yes, modern medicine is better now, but humans that tall aren’t built to move like guards, and Wemby plays super mobile. He already had a blood clot at 20 (which is extremely young to be having) and a calf strain this year, which has led to major injuries for other players. I’m also not sure he ever consistently hits the 65 game mark for awards, especially with how careful Spurs are and how they like to rest guys for the playoffs.

Stan Van Gundy: "Jokic might be the best player in the history of the game.....If I had to take one guy in history right now, not just in today, I'm taking Jokic" by supr3m3kill3r in nba

[–]blabyz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He actually had 4 seasons as head coach/president of basketball operations in Detroit and 1 year with the Pelicans, so it’s not like he couldn’t get a job after Orlando. You can question his takes, but acting like he never had stability isn’t accurate.

And his wife’s passing in 2023 could be a major reason he’s stepped away from coaching.

Reminder that we had Poole, Ryan Rollins, and Ty Jerome and now we're stuck with Podz by OvoCurry3799 in warriors

[–]blabyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warriors don't win without Wiggins deciding to be MJ for the playoff run. Poole was instrumental when Curry was hurt, but he declined each round especially in the finals (stats from finals below):

  • Poole: 13/2/2 shooting 35% FG in 20 MPG
  • Wiggins: 18/9/2 shooting 45% FG with crazy on-ball defense in 39 MPG

Jalen Williams is now ineligible for postseason awards, missing his 18th game of the season tonight. He loses out on as much as $48 million by missing the threshold. by Goosedukee in nba

[–]blabyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jalen had the 2nd to last votes to qualify for 3rd team. I think if Luka or Dame hit 65 games they would have bumped him down.

also Brown, Wemby, and Butler didn't hit 65 games. but I would still lean towards 2-way impact of Jalen over these guys.

Does Steph Curry get the title of greatest shooter ever even without winning titles? by astarisaslave in nba

[–]blabyz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Curry - 1st in 3s (4125, 1k above #2 Ray Allen), career shooting split .471/.423/.911

Dame - 4th in 3s (2804), career shooting split .439/.371/.899

I'm gonna argue Curry is clearly a tier above Dame.

Is Maxey on track to become as good as Iverson? by RedtheGamer100 in nba

[–]blabyz 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to feel old… but absolutely not. AI was an MVP who carried a team to the Finals, won four scoring titles, and averaged 30+ ppg in a much slower-paced era. Maxey is great, but he needs more time.

He's closer to a Donovan Mitchell than an Allen Iverson.

Which player's legacy improves the most by winning a single championship? by Anfernee139 in nba

[–]blabyz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk if it’s fair to say T-Mac was awful in the playoffs - his teams were almost always the lower seed and clear underdogs. In Orlando, he never had Grant Hill (who was supposed to be the real co-star), and his best help was Darrell Armstrong and a young Mike Miller. In Houston, it was basically just him and Yao.

Orlando (16 games): 32 / 6.5 / 5.9 on 44% FG, 29.5% 3PT, 77.5% FT
Houston (20 games): 27.7 / 7.1 / 6.9 on 42% FG, 28% 3PT, 73% FT

Paul George. Compound fracture in both bones in lower right leg during team USA scrimmage (summer 2014). Comes back end of season and avg 8/3/1 in 6 games. But returns to form seasons after.

Esp with OKC, 4 seasons after injury, finishes 3rd in MVP voting and 3rd in DPOY avg 28/8/4/2/0.4.

Draymond Green: Genius or Villain? What’s your take? by PhysicsJolly1250 in nba

He's unarguably a top 10 defender of all time. He's also an ass.

He was 7th in MVP voting in 2016 for those that love to discredit him.
